Incidental combustible liquid storage (e g., lube oil reservoirs, fuel day tanks, etc.) should normally not be installed within 1.8 meters (6 ft.) of an emergency exit route, especially if it is the only means of egress from an enclosure.

Lube oil level in the reservoir should be monitored by a sensing deviee to indieate low lube oil level. Loeal and panel-mounted pressure gauges are neeessary to monitor operation of the lube oil system and must be ineluded in the manufaeturer s seope of supply. The purehaser must distinguish between eontrol room instrumentation and instruments mounted on a stand-alone (loeal) panel. There is also a tendeney to plaee monitoring instruments on auxiliary equipment and piping. While this may eost less, it often eomplieates tlie operator s surveillanee tasks.

The primary function of the lube oil console is to supply clean, cool lubricating oil to the bearings of the compressor and its driver. The console is a package of equipment, which is supplied by the compressor vendor and usually includes an oil reservoir, two pumps (a primary and a spare), two filters or filter elements in a duplex-type arrangement, coolers, and associated controls.
