LSD effects

Using a standardized method for eliciting flexion (electrical stimulation of the base of the hindpaw) and a quantifiable method of contraction measurement (force transducer attached to the hindpaw), Nozaki et al. (136,137) found that LSD (10 Mg/kg) and tryptamine both increased the flexor reflex in acutely spinalized rats. Both these effects were blocked by pretreatment with the 5-HT antagonist cyproheptadine. A similar LSD effect was reported in spinal cats (118).

Human investigations point to dimensions for which psychobiologic study is relevant. I have noted the two phases of LSD effects relevant to understanding... 

It is possible that iso-LSD may block LSD effects somewhat and inhibit the cosmic trips that can result from high doses this is however unproven. Nevertheless, the prime reasons for a lack of cosmicity are undoubtedly low doses and the development of tolerance. A single exposure to LSD or other psychedelics may produce an adaptation or tolerance that lasts the rest of your life (seeing the ocean for the first time is not a repeatable experience). Furthermore, as seems to be the case with the active chemical (THC) and its inhibitor (CBD) in marijuana, the presence of the inhibitor may sometimes result in a more pleasant experience. Only careful studies in which varying amounts of iso-LSD are added to LSD will decide the issue. 

The cure for dream psychosis is awakening. As soon as REM terminates, the serotonin system escapes from inhibition and modulates the visual system in favor of the undistorted processing of external data. As the LSD effects wore off, Hofmann slept deeply, thereby restoring the efficacy of his own serotonin neuromodulatory system. Too bad we couldn t have recorded that first recovery night to detect Hofmann s REM, measure it, decide if it was more or less intense, and even perform an awakening or two to sample his post-LSD dreams. 

Psychotic reactions triggered by LSD have been reported to be aborted by neuroleptics, beta blockers and pargyline type molecules. These drugs block the neurochemical sequence of events that allow the drug to be active. More study on molecules which block or abort LSD effects should be researched further as it will lead to a better understanding of neurochemical mechanisms. 

Administration of 10-30 mg [Valium], orally to persons under the influence of LSD (whether they are enjoying the drug or suffering from it) results in cessation of LSD effects in about half an hour hallucinations cease, euphoria wanes, any panic or terror disappears, and (according to patients so treated) the LSD experience comes to a hold while the sedation produced encourages them to seek the sleep that most such patients desire, Dr. Ronald M. Levy (Levy 1971). 

The combination showed definite synergism, with a rapid show of the LSD effects (within fifteen minutes) and an almost three plus effect.
