Losec, Prilosec Losec MUPS, Prilosec MUPS... 

An iV-phenyl-allylamine has been arylated terminally using phosphine-free conditions and a heteroaryl iodide in the synthesis of an H+/K+-ATPase inhibitor (Figure 3.31) [91]. This class of inhibitors has attracted the interest of many medicinal chemistry groups due to the large sales of the blockbuster Losec/Prilosec (Omeprazole). In the cited case, the allylic amine moiety was added at a late stage of the synthesis and the primary amine was protected by Boc to prevent formation of 7r-allyl palladium complexes. The deprotection was then performed with trifluoroacetic acid. 

All products include omeprazole as active ingredient. Losec and Prilosec are original medicinal products in Europe and USA respectively. MUPS (Multi Unit Pellet System) is also an original trade name and drug formulation... 

Omeprazole Each particle in the capsule is protected by an acid stable content that must not be crushed. The granules in the capsule can be too large for tube administration. Change drug. Another proton-pump inhibitor with smaller granules such as Nexium or Prilosec/Losec MUPS. Special instructions are available... 

Our second interesting case of chirality is an example of advertising trumping science. In this case, the molecule in question is known generically as esomeprazole and is marketed in the United States as Nexium, widely advertised as the purple pill. The story begins with a closely related molecule, omeprazole, marketed as Losec or Prilosec. 

There are at least two prominent reasons why society should be concerned about this. Whenever the market— that is, the combination of physician and patient—has been given a choice, it has chosen the best drug available. The best example of this, which we will discuss more fully later, is that of omeprazole (Losec, sold as Prilosec), which...
