The term accidental fire refers to all fires other than those which have been deliberately or maliciously started. There are a wide range of causes of fires within the workplace. These will to a certain extent reflect the use to which the workplace Is put. It Is also useful to consider causes of fires In vehicles as In many organisations a workplace may be a vehicle, such as In the case of a long distance lorry driver working for a haulage company. 

Powered haulage includes dozers, motor graders, haulage trucks, front-end loaders, load-haul-dump units (LHDs), train locomotives and rail cars, shuttle cars, forklifts, conveyors, and mine skips. Characteristics of this equipment, such as weight, horsepower, speed, and the ability to travel long distances create tremendous potential and/or kinetic energy. This, in turn, creates environments for serious accidents and injuries. 

Within this Chapter, the fundamentals for the ergonomic design of camera-monitor systems (CMS) in heavy commercial vehicles are considered. Under heavy commercial vehicles heavy tractor-trailer and drawbar-combinations for the European long-haulage traffic are to be understood [13, p. 31], [79, p. 198]. As shown in Sect. 1.1.2, aerodynamically reasonable measures such as the CMS are only of interest in the long-distance traffic [44, p. 653]. The delimitation of the train combinations is done, as in the European long-distance transport almost exclusively tractor-trailer and drawbar-combinations with more than 12 tons are used [68, p. 19].
