Local incidence number

If cells C(p-I,j) and C(p,i) meet on more than one occasion, then the numbers given by (3.30) give only the local incidence number for one occasion for the k-th occasion the local incidence number is denoted by njjk(p-l). In this case, the +I and -1 numbers on the right-hand side of Equation (3.30) must be summed up for each occasion C(p-I,j) and C(p,i) meet, and the sum gives the value of the incidence number ... 

For example, in Figure 3.2, the 2-cell F = C(2,6) stretches over the far side of the surface G, hence it meets the I-cell h = C(l,8) on two occasions. When F meets h from the upper right-hand side, then there is a mismatch of orientations hence we obtain a local incidence number of n6,8,l(l) = -I- However, when F meets h from the lower left-hand side, then orientations match hence we obtain a local incidence number of n6,8,2(0 =+1- According to Equation (3.31), the sum of these two values, -1 -i-l = 0, is the incidence number n6,8(l) fot these two cells, F = C(2,6), and h = C(l,8) ... 

The local incidence numbers between I-cells and 0-cells conform with the following convention -I or +1 correspond to the oriented I-cell leaving or entering the 0-cell, respectively. 

The results of a major epidemiological study of the geographical variations in the occurrence throughout China of a wide variety of different types of cancer have recently been published in the form of an atlas (146). One result of this survey was the revelation of a very high, but very localized, incidence of esophageal cancer in the Linxian valley of Henan province in northern China (146,147). Esophageal cancer also exhibits very high incidence in a number of other localities in both Asia and Africa (148), but the Chinese occurrence has so far attracted the most international attention. 

Locally the numbers are even more dramatic. In a similar eight-year period (between 1991 and 1998), the rate of heroin-related incidents at area hospitals increased by 413% in Miami, 288% in Chicago, and 238% in St. Louis. 

Call the local emergency number (911, if available) and report the incident. The type of emergency must be clearly described so that the dispatcher can send the appropriate emergency responders. Do this from a nearby location but outside the affected area. 

These figures can be used for predictive purposes to extrapolate average major incident conditions to situations under study, provided the actual conditions under study correspond reasonably well with average major incident conditions. Such a condition may be broadly described as a spill of some tens of tons of a hydrocarbon in an environment with local concentrations of obstructions and/or partial confinement, for example, the site of an average refinery or chemical plant with dense process equipment or the site of a railroad marshaling yard with a large number of closely parked rail cars. It must be emphasized that the TNT equivalencies listed above should not be used in situations in which average major incident conditions do not apply. 

These reports were in addition to the internal reporting for OSHA PSM and various local or state requirements. While Quality Chemical had long ago consolidated a number of these programs, there were still four different accident/incident reporting systems—one for external reporting of releases, one for external reporting of injuries and other nonrelease events, one for a corporate-wide database and one for each site itself. 

Ammonium ions—To reduce the incidence of dental caries, ammonium ions are applied locally in the oral cavity. Certain dentifrices which contain ammonia or ammonium compounds e.g. dibasic ammonium phosphate and urea carbamide which liberates ammonia in the mouth are used. They decrease the number of acid producing pathogen, decrease the acidity of the oral cavity and dissolve the dental plaques.
