Load-bearing strength

Stabihzation processes chemically convert the contaminants into their least soluble form so that they do not dissolve in groundwater and, hence, are not dispersible. In addition, these processes may convert the contaminants into a nontoxic form so that they do not contaminate soil and air. By converting a powder into a monolithic solid of high structural integrity, solidification eliminates free liquid, increases load-bearing strength, and decreases the surface area of the waste materials that will come in contact with groundwater or soil. [Pg.198]

PROPERTIES OF SPECIAL INTEREST Excellent load bearing (strength and stiffness) capability at elevated temperatures. Good chemical and abrasion resistance. Low coefficient of friction. Toughness and impact resistance. [Pg.180]

Shore hardness can be as soft as 70 A and as hard as 74 D, depending on the hard/soft segment ratio. Specific gravity, modulus, compressive stress, load-bearing strength, and tear strength are also hard/soft ratio dependent. TPU thermoplastic elastomers are tough, tear resistant, abrasion resistant, and exhibit low-temperature properties. ... [Pg.200]

Canying capacity weight to be carried per hour by the system. This depends on physical load bearing strength of the material, speed of the belt and loading per metre of length. [Pg.33]

Unlike mechanical joints, adhesive bonds do not immediately reach their maximum or ultimate strength because adhesives are reactive systems which need time to cure for achieving handling strength and load-bearing strength (Fig. 63). [Pg.419]

Stability needs to take into account the nature, load-bearing strength, stability, adjacent excavations and slope of the surface. For mobile equipment, keeping rails free of obstruction and tyres correctly inflated must be considered. [Pg.443]

An orthophthalic for use in non-cored furniture and associated castings that require moderate load-bearing strength properties with dimensional stability, such as mirror frames, headboards, doors and lamp bases, c. 275-325 e. 4-8/25... [Pg.250]

Both types of adhesive yield bonds which, depending on formulation, achieve load-bearing strength quite quickly but continue to increase in strength over several days. [Pg.11]

Many adhesive types can, by alteration of the precise chemistry of the basic polymer or by changing the formulation by adding catalysts or accelerators, show a very wide variation in the time required to achieve load-bearing strength. Additionally, where curing depends on a chemical reaction rather than mere loss of solvent or crystallization, it can be greatly hastened by an increase of temperature. [Pg.208]
