Pemoline (Cylert), (112.5 to 185.5 mg) was assessed in a 3-week open trial in 15 adolescents with CD, ADHD, and SUD (Riggs et ah, 1996). Three of the subjects were receiving other psychotropic medications (clonidine (Catapres) and paroxetine [Paxil]). All subjects had a significant improvement in ADHD symptoms (p <0.002) while 10/13 reported that the pemoline (Cylert) assisted in their substance rehabilitation. No subjects developed a significant elevation in their liver function tests, nor did any subjects test positive for substances of abuse for the duration of the study. No interactions between pemoline (Cylert) and any substances of abuse were reported. 

Since 1995, to improve rehabilitation in our Centre, the hyperbaric oxygenation method has been used in the postoperative period in patients with liver cirrhosis. HBO was carried out in a single barocamera BLKS-3-01 in pure oxygen (purity 99.5%) at pressure of 1.6-2.0 kg-force cm . The duration of a session was 40-60 min, and 8-10 sessions were required for one course of treatment. All patients had a determined individual indication for HBO. 

Drug therapy of a particular liver disease or complicative development must have basic treatment aims. The primary therapeutic aim is to eliminate the existing causative factors and pathogenetic mechanisms. The final goal is always the rehabilitation of the liver patient, (s. tab. 40.2) (s. p. 881)... 

Perhaps the expectations or requirements of liver therapy are too high. With regard to other organs and their respective diseases, established medication often does not really achieve a cure , but merely functional improvements (e. g. recompensation, inhibition of progression, stabilization in everyday life, improvement in quality of life, rehabilitation). In principle, these fully acceptable therapy aims apply to the treatment of liver diseases as well. 

The chief function of testosterone and other androgens is to promote the normal growth of the male reproductive organs (the primary sex characteristics) and the development of the male s characteristic deep voice, pattern of body and facial hair, and musculature (secondary sex characteristics). Although testosterone produces these effects, it is not active when taken oraUy because it is metabolized in the liver to an inactive steroid.
