Lipoprotein overall structure

There seems little doubt that divalent cations play an important role in the overall structure of the cell wall of Ps. aeruginosa. If this is so, then removal or displacement of these ions by chelating agents such as EDTA can be expected to have a drastic effect on the normal functioning of the cell wall. A number of workers have suggested that the action of EDTA is to disorganise one of the layers, probably lipoprotein in the cell wall [136-138] while others have shown that EDTA extracts lipid, lipoprotein or lipopolysaccharide from the cell wall [24,25, 139]. 

Discussion of fat transport in terms of lipoproteins is justified by the fact that each plasma lipid is present in blood as a constituent of lipoproteins. Unfortunately, our knowledge of lipoproteins as structural and functional units is sparse thus any attempt to give an overall view of their role in fat transport is still largely speculative. One of the most difficult problems is that of differentiating the metabolism of transported fats from metabolism of those which are structural constituents of lipoproteins, and the establishment of their interrelationship. Variations from one animal species to another are also be considered and undue generalization avoided until better comparative studies are available. 

The drug , being a structural analogue of fibric acid, acts on the lipoprotein metabolism. It also reduces elevated plasma concentration of cholesterol to a much lesser extent, but the overall effect is variable in nature. Its mechanism of action is not quite explicite and clear. It may also cause... 

Overall, these studies substantiate the notion that polyphenols, in a structure-dependent way, are capable of interacting with membranes and lipoproteins and, at this location, may attain a local concentration high enough to act as antioxidants via regeneration of a-TOH.
