Formation of the PEG and microcavity resonance was also confirmed by numerical modeling. Linearly polarized, near-diffraction-hmited, mode-locked 1319 and 1064 nm pulse trains are generated in separate dual-head, diode-pumped resonators. Each 2-rod resonator incorporates fiber-coupled diode lasers to end-pump the rods, and features intracavity birefringence compensation. The pulses are stabilized to a 1 GHz bandwidth. Timing jitter is actively controlled to < 150 ps. Models indicate that for the mode-locked pulses, relative timing jitter of 200 ps between the lasers causes <5% reduction in SFG conversion efficiency. [Pg.233]

Figure 4.6 shows an apparatus for the fluorescence depolarization measurement. The linearly polarized excitation pulse from a mode-locked Ti-Sapphire laser illuminated a polymer brush sample through a microscope objective. The fluorescence from a specimen was collected by the same objective and input to a polarizing beam splitter to detect 7 and I by photomultipliers (PMTs). The photon signal from the PMT was fed to a time-correlated single photon counting electronics to obtain the time profiles of 7 and I simultaneously. The two linearly polarized fields are generated by rf currents in two pairs of wires oriented parallel to B0 and connected to form two half-loops which cross each other perpendicularly. Special techniques were developed for the analysis of nucleotide phosphates. For the separation of these compounds, either dynamic pH gradient (Sustacek et al., 1989) or linear polyacrylamide-coated capillaries (Takigiku and Schneider, 1991) were used. One simple method for varying the coupling is to construct the resonator from two polarizers. We can show (Tudisco, 1988) that the finesse of such a resonator is proportional to cos, where is the relative orientation of the two polarizers. This device is the quasioptical analog of the cavity coupling scheme of Lebedev (1990).
