One of the limitations of the curtain/slot draw process is that the amount of fiber attenuation is constrained due to the short distance generally allowed between the spinnerette and the venturi slot and the use of relatively low pressure air for drawing so as not to induce high turbulence in the area of the laydown. In practical terms this has made the process difficult to adapt for the production of polyester fabrics which inherently require much higher fiber acceleration to attain the desired polyester fiber properties. 

Physical controls are generally only applicable in lakes. The infinence of river morphology on eutrophication is not sufficiently well understood to be used effectively. The exception to this would be the short-term use of high flow to reduce the retention time to levels which limit growth rates of nuisance species such as cyanobacteria. 

This knowledge is also important in order to determine if air tests conducted by OSHA compliance officers are valid. For example, if threshold limit value in the health standard is an 8-hour time-weighted average, the air sample should be obtained by sampling over the entire shift in the employee s breathing zone. It cannot be measured by a few short term samples, even if spaced over the full shift unless the worker is in a relatively fixed location with no variation in his work procedure or in the process. Such an event is generally the exception rather than the rule.
