Limit indurance

Mild 2 Presence of at least two manifestations of inflammation (purulence or erythema, pain, tenderness, warmth or induration), but any cellulitis/erythema extends no more than 2 cm around the ulcer, and infection is limited to the skin or superficial subcutaneous tissues no other local complications or systemic illness... [Pg.1082]

Stage 1 Pressure sore is generally reversible, is limited to the epidermis, and resembles an abrasion. It is best described as an irregularly shaped area of soft-tissue swelling with induration and heat... [Pg.531]

The material shows clearly the difference of optical transparency of irradiated zones. It seems that the effect is limited to the range of the a-particles, which would tend to prove that the radioactivity is unable by itself to induce the entire induration of the asphalt. This does not exclude the effect of the released heat. [Pg.126]

Post-phlebrtic syndrome, a complication of acute DVT is estimated to occur in approximately 4% of the population (213). This syndrome is characterized by persistent pain, edema, hyperpigmentation, induration of the skin, and stasis ulceration (214). The post-phlebrtic syndrome may be due to venous hypertension as a result of outflow obstruction or damage to the valves and in the cutaneous microcirculation may manifest as tissue hypoxia and lymphatic obstruction. Chronic venous insufficiency may lead to post-phlebetic syndrome. The syndrome may be the result of abnormalities in the superficial, the perforator, or the deep venous system. The diagnosis is purely clinical. The pharmacologic treament of post-phlebetic syndrome is rather limited, with pentoxifylline reported to improve the healing rate of skin ulcers. [Pg.18]

General reactions (seen in some older children and adults) are usually limited to brief fever sustained fever and other systemic reactions are uncommon unless the person has been hyperimmunized. After the administration of DT vaccine, local reactions, generally erythema and induration, with or without tenderness, can occur. In hyperimmunized cases, Arthus-type hypersensitivity reactions can occur. These characteristically severe local reactions generally start 2-8 hours after an injection. People who have such reactions usually have very high serum antitoxin concentrations and one should be careful not to administer a booster more than once every 10 years. [Pg.1137]

PPV23 safety is well documented. Local reactions occur frequently within the first 48 hours and generally are mild. Lxjcal erythema and induration (30%), local discomfort (40%), and local swelling (3%) are the side effects observed most commonly. Revaccination has been associated with self-limited injection-site reactions more commonly than after the first dose. Rarely, severe systemic reactions can occur, and they consist of weakness, myalgia, headache, photophobia, chills, and fever. Guillain-Barre syndrome has not been reported. In patients with HIV infection, pneumococcal vaccine may cause a transient increase in viral replication, but the importance of this is unknown. [Pg.2241]

A. Local effects, including pain, erythema, and induration at the injection site. These are usually self-limiting, and do not require therapy. [Pg.504]

Fish-handler s disease Rosenbach s erysipeloid with purplish red indurated plaque with central clearing Typically self limited Necrotizing myositis or soft tissue infection... [Pg.1076]

If I detect induration during the postoperative exam, I immediately institute treatment with class 1 topical steroids. I will often provide samples of these agents to patients to limit their use and ensure the patient will return. When hypertrophic scarring does occur, intrale-sional corticosteroids [triamcinolone acetonide 2.5-10 mg per mL) and Cordran tape used nightly are employed. It is interesting to note that dermabrasions and lasers produce scars in the same anatomical areas as deeper chemical peels (Figs 15.21 and 15.22). [Pg.160]
