Lighting Fluorescent lamp fittings

A 13-W fluorescent light that fits in a standard screw-in socket provides the same light as the 60-W bulb it replaces. The expected lifetime of the fluorescent lamp is 10 000 h, whereas that of the incandescent bulb is 750 h. The fluorescent light is more expensive than the incandescent bulb but saves a great deal of electricity and money over its lifetime. 

Examine cells by fluorescence microscopy using a lOOx objective and 50-W mercury lamp fitted with rotating 340- and 380-nm excitation filters (the latter paired with a 30% neutral density filter). For each filter use 500-ms excitation residence time in the light path and 126 ms change time between filters (4, 35). 

Contact Lens Fitting and Management Fluorescein staining of the tear film is a major aid in the fitting of rigid gas-permeable contact lenses.After topical application of fluorescein to the eye the tear layer becomes visible, with a characteristic pattern of green fluorescence. Observation of the fluorescein-stained tear film with an ultraviolet light or the cobalt blue filter of the slit lamp allows determination of the fit of the lens.
