Light peels indications

Peel indications differ between light and dark skin. Key indications in Fitzpatrick s skin types I-III include photodamage, rhytides, acne. 

Level 1 Erythema with blotchy or wispy areas of white frosting.This indicates a superficial epidermal peel as can be achieved with TCA concentrations <30%. This peel will result in light flaking lasting 2-4 days. 

Easter egg dyes are natural dyes that can be found around the home. They include blue from cabbage leaves or blueberries, orange from yellow onion skins, red from cranberries or raspberries, pale green from spinach leaves, and light yellow from orange or lemon peels. Dyes often have different colors in acidic and alkaline solutions. This enables them to be used as acid-base indicators. Histologically, freckles are characterized by a normal number of melanocytes in the basal layer. The melanocytes are, however, larger and more dendritic , and give up their melanosomes more readily to the keratinocytes. Freckles disappear completely and definitively with phenol. A TCA peel to the papillary dermis will also get rid of freckles. A local phenol peel is contraindicated on light skin phototypes - which in principle are a good indication for phenol - with freckles, as they will disappear where the phenol has been applied and will persist in the surrounding areas. A combination of local Lip Eyelid and Unideep (TCA to the papillary dermis) is suitable to avoid this freckle demarcation Hne. 

While medium-depth peels on the face can be considered one-stage procedures, this is often not the case on the body. Due to increased potential for adverse events such as scarring off the face, similar peels are done in a series and at lower concentrations. Results are seen after a few sessions and should be accompanied by a regular topical maintenance program to prolong the benefits. Additionally, for specific indications, body peels can be combined with other minimally invasive procedures including lasers, light sources, electrodessication, cryosur-... 

To control comedonal acne and seborrhea, several sessions of weekly light chemical peels are performed over the course of a month. For photo rejuvenation, periodic light chemical peels can exfoliate the hyperkeratotic stratum corneum and improve skin brightness and texture. Concentrations of the peeling agent are titrated upwards as the patient tolerates. Today s patients desire cost-effective procedures which produce reliable results and have minimal associated side effects and downtime. For many indications, chemical peels are just that.
