Leather consolidant

Leather dressing serves a number of important purposes. It can sometimes soften hard leather and help to prevent pieces breaking off, it consolidates powdering, and to some extent prevents absorption of sulfur dioxide. The last factor is an important one in the case of new leathers which have not started to rot. [Pg.24]

The solvents providing the best penetration for consolidating solnlions have been found to be petroleum solvent for PnBMA (Domaslowski and Lehmann, 1972) and dichloromethane for PMMA (Lewin and Papadimitriou, 1981). A limited range of solvents was surveyed. PEA in solution is used as a consolidant for leather (Waterer, 1973). [Pg.180]

EC is little used in conservation because better solvent-bome polymers are available. EC with a dibutyl phthalate plasticizer was suggested as a consolidant for leather (Belaya, 1958). [Pg.226]
