The effects of cannabis on memory was examined in numerous studies, and again the results are variable. For example, fewer words are recalled from a list by subjects administered cannabis compared to placebo, but no effects were seen on a verbal paired-associate learning (Abel 1971 Hooker and Jones 1987). [Pg.429]

Marijuana has been shown to impair learning in the repeated acquisition and performance of response sequences tasks. Increased errors in the acquisition phase were reported after smoked marijuana (2.0 and 3.5% THC)244 and oral THC (10 and 20 mg) 247 However, other studies40,52 have found no effect of smoked marijuana on this test, and one study251 reported that oral THC (20 mg, q.i.d.) increased the number of completed trials. Block et al.233 reported that one marijuana cigarette (2.6% THC) impaired paired-associative learning. [Pg.83]

As indicated in Table 3, smoking a marijuana cigarette containing 10 mg of THC did not affect recall in a paired-associate learning test in which subjects were presented with a list of pairs of words (2). Memory was assessed by pre-... [Pg.221]

Learning through association has been a common mode of training in many behavioural experiments. All studies outlined below involve the pairing of a known stimulus with an unknown stimulus, followed by testing to document the occurrence of learning. [Pg.322]

Learning Test, Logical Memory, and Paired Associated Learning), and nonverbal memory (Rey-Osterreith Complex Figure and Benton Visual Retention). In analyzing the association between lead exposure and test performance, adjustment for confoimders is critical. Confoimders include age, education (preferably a measure of verbal intelligence), depressive symptoms, alcohol use, and smoking. [Pg.68]

The whole battery takes from 43 min to h per child. The greatest variation in time comes from different times to complete the Paired Associate Learning Test. Only one child out of over 500 could not complete the battery, and that was because he had an asthmatic attack. Children aged under 7 found some difficulty with the speed of information processing task this may be because they did not fully understand the instruction to point to the largest number. Otherwise, there is confidence that this battery is age-related and suitable for the intended age range. Scores still have to be related to other psychometric and behavioural rating data in order to establish the construct validity of the measures. [Pg.275]

Mechanism through which repeated associations between two stimuli induce a new learned response. In particular, by pairing a neutral stimulus (conditioned stimulus) with an unconditioned stimulus (that induces a physiological response) many times, the neutral stimulus alone will be capable of producing a conditioned physiological response. [Pg.386]
