Leaf casting

Leaf Casting Shop. The principle of leaf casting or mechanical repair of paper is quite simple paper fibers are suspended in a chamber filled with water. The bottom of the chamber has a grid that supports the document undergoing repair. When the water is sucked down, the fibers stay in the missing areas of the document. [Pg.44]

Over 45 morphological types of leaf cast have been identified from the travertine deposits (Auler et al., 2004) (Figure 17.7), which provide further corroborative evidence that during these past pluvial phases semi-deciduous forest grew in localities presently dominated by cactus thorn scrub. [Pg.405]

If a work has to be maintained as an original because of its value, even if the paper is seriously damaged, then deaddification is not suffident In these cases a stabilization of the paper is necessary. This can only be achieved be preservational techniques like wet treatment, leaf casting (if parts are missing), application of thin stabilizing material [39] or paper spHtting. [Pg.490]

A silver replica of a holly leaf is to be made by investment casting. (A natural leaf is coated with ceramic slurry which is then dried and fired. During firing the leaf burns away, leaving a mould cavity.) The thickness of the leaf is 0.4 mm. Calculate the liquid head needed to force the molten silver into the mould cavity. It can be assumed that molten silver does not wet the mould walls. [Pg.156]

MILLS OR RiMPRO For decades the Mills scab table was considered to be the most important tool for calculation of infections. Large numbers of unsuccessful attempts at scab control, however, have cast doubt on the accuracy of this table, which only takes into account the physical factors relevant for infection. It ignores the biological factors (e.g. spore potential, spore maturity, leaf growth), and it is questionable whether the calculations are correct. [Pg.127]

The purity of the grass stand was about 99% all other species were rejected when cut. The grass consisted entirely of leaf material without heading it was about 20-30 cm tall. Drying took place in a ventilated oven at about 50°C. The grass came in contact only with cast iron and was spread on washed filter paper. [Pg.243]

Different castes have different patterns of receptors. .. S. I. Koch et al. Caste-specific expression patterns of immune response and chemosensory related genes in the leaf-cutting ant, Atta vollenweideri. 2013. PLoS One 8(11), p. e81518. DOI 10.1371/joumal. pone.0081518. [Pg.318]
