Spore maturation

MILLS OR RiMPRO For decades the Mills scab table was considered to be the most important tool for calculation of infections. Large numbers of unsuccessful attempts at scab control, however, have cast doubt on the accuracy of this table, which only takes into account the physical factors relevant for infection. It ignores the biological factors (e.g. spore potential, spore maturity, leaf growth), and it is questionable whether the calculations are correct. [Pg.127]

GENERAL DESCRIPTION Cap smooth, white, thick fleshed, convex to broadly convex to plane with age. The cap margin is incurved at first but soon decurves. The gills are pinkish at first, soon darkening to chocolate brown with spore maturity. The stem is thick, relatively short and adorned with a double membranous annulus. (The lower ring is often a thin annular zone). Its spores are dark chocolate brown In mass. [Pg.162]

Macroscopic Appearance Represented by two mutable forms the imperfect form Monilia is generally a fine powdery whitish mold and the perfect form Neurospora is a rapid growing tenacious aerial mold that is pinkish with spore maturity. In grain both the whitish and the pinkish Neurospora are encountered. White Monilia has a remarkable resemblance to finely ground perlite and can easily be mistaken for it. On casing soil, the pink form is more common. Both are very rapid growing. [Pg.288]

Monilia and Neurospora attack the mushroom beds and casing layers with rapid growing grayish mycelia that soon develop pinkish tones with spore maturity. Contamination by this fungus is usually traced Jo unclean casing or infected spawn. [Pg.289]

Spore maturation also proceeds with conidia separated from the moulds mycelium, demonstrating that it is a process not depending on interaction with hyphal cells (7, 17). Conidiospore detachment in P. cyclopium is therefore an example of the so-called quanta cell cycles in which daughter cells during their formation are so determined as to carry out programmes of specialization, which makes them different from their mother cells (cf. 18). Strains purified were vaccinated in PDA medium, having been cultivated for 5-7 days, when the spores matured, and we scraped the adequate amoimt of spores and merged them into spore suspension with sterile water.
