In the world today there is there is a clear trend in almost every market sector for companies and organizations to focus their activities on enhancing core-competencies and build national or global market brands to advance their respective market leadership positions. As a result, many noncore activities are often subcontracted to a service company rather than being undertaken by the organization s own employees.

I had been aware of the problem since joining the organization. but I thought I just had to live with it. There is an assumption within my organization that I will take the major responsibility for running it. that I will show the leadership and commitment, but that I can do all this with exactly the same tools as, for example, the part-time Volunteer Coordinator. This is very unrealistic and has great potential for stress and failure. 

Viewing a QMS in this context is beneficial to organizational leadership and management responsible for the system. It puts into perspective the overall effect on an organization that is achievable by individual processes alone and what can be achieved and sustained through active management and the interaction between those processes. 

Several challenges and requirements present themselves when establishing a formal QMS. A primary requirement is a skilled team that understands the needs of the organization, regulatory, and customer requirements. It should have the skill, experience, and expertise to design a robust system and identify processes that support the enterprise. A mismatch of team skills with enterprise needs may result in a nonviable system that is not supported by leadership and staff, leading to failure and disuse over time.
