Lead carrier

I met Ilya in 1955 while I was still a graduate student. He became a good friend, helpful and loyal, critical and encouraging, and above all personally warm. His extraordinarily broad interests in all intellectual matters, ranging from prehistoric art to philosophy, affected me deeply. I will miss him, as will the entire scientific community. The greatest tribute to his memory will be the continuation of the Advances in Chemical Physics series as a leading carrier of state-of-the-art science. [Pg.392]

Provision was made in the rabbit to hold either a metal target on edge or a small cylindrical container of a salt of the element to be bombarded. After bombardments of approximately a minute were made In this Jiffy probe, the doors of the cyclotron were opened immediately the target blown out of the probe Into a lead carrier which was manually carried to the laboratory for processing. Later arrangements were made to transport the rabbit to the laboratory with a pneumatic tube. ... [Pg.13]

The first child, of course, is in fact the only child for awhile, although parents with additional children in mind from the outset usually maintain the perspective that he or she is "only" for awhile, and is destined to become one of more. The first child, however, is often the lead carrier of parental expectations and has a lot of special standing to lose when dethroned by the arrival of the next in line. [Pg.181]

New applications for probiotic delivery will certainly be found. However, it is also likely that the current mainstream vehicles for probiotic consumption, i.e. yogurt-type dairy products and supplements (capsules), will remain the leading carriers of probiotics in the near future. This is not so much a technological issue, given the options of other possible carriers that are available, as discussed. It is, however, a matter of consumer acceptance. [Pg.15]

With respect to communications about safety, results of the survey illustrate that safety leaders at leading carriers create an atmosphere in which employees are free to raise safety concerns and there is open and continuous dialogue among employees, supervisors, and managers about safety issues. [Pg.66]

Leading carriers have established (written) formal driving hiring standards that place the greatest emphasis on an applicant s safe driving record. [Pg.68]

Depending on the degree of purity required, the procedures necessary to exclude extraneous lead carrier can be extremely involved or rather simple. The methods devised to obtain extremely high purity samples will be reviewed. For most, (but not all) radiochemical applications of even so-called "carrier-free" samples such precautions are unnecessary. Consequently, the purity obtainable by less, refined, techniques will be Indicated where such information is available.. ... [Pg.102]

To 20 mg. of lead carrier In a 40 ml centrifuge cone, add the solution containing the lead activity. If barium carrier Is not present, add 10 mg barium scavange. Boil the solution to dryness twice with hydrochloric acid. [Pg.129]

Reviewers Note A small amount of lead and bismuth carrier must be present. The amount of lead carrier should be In the range 0.05-5 mg. The plating Is continued at each step until the current falls to a low and constant value. [Pg.134]

After Irradiation, the meteorite samples were placed In nickel crucibles containing 2 mg lead carrier and about 10 grama of sodium peroxide was added. The mixture was then fused. The fused mass (after cooling) was broken up with water and removed from the crucible. The mixture was then acidified and a clear solution was obtained. After making the solution 0.5 M In hydrochloric acid, 200 mg of strontium was added and lead and strontium sulfates were precipitated with ammonium sulfate. [Pg.134]

Especially with LTG GaAs, materials became available that were nearly ideal for time-resolved THz spectroscopy. Due to the low growth temperature and the slight As excess incorporated, clusters are fonned which act as recombination sites for the excited carriers, leading to lifetimes of <250 fs [45], With such recombination lifetunes, THz radiators such as dipole anteimae or log-periodic spirals placed onto optoelectronic substrates and pumped with ultrafast lasers can be used to generate sub-picosecond pulses with optical bandwidths of 2-4 THz. Moreover, coherent sub-picosecond detection is possible, which enables both... [Pg.1249]

Various other soft materials without the layer—lattice stmcture are used as soHd lubricants (58), eg, basic white lead or lead carbonate [598-63-0] used in thread compounds, lime [1305-78-8] as a carrier in wire drawing, talc [14807-96-6] and bentonite [1302-78-9] as fillers for grease for cable pulling, and zinc oxide [1314-13-2] in high load capacity greases. Graphite fluoride is effective as a thin-film lubricant up to 400°C and is especially useful with a suitable binder such as polyimide varnish (59). Boric acid has been shown to have promise as a self-replenishing soHd composite (60). [Pg.250]
