Lapse problems

Bids are normally kept open for a specific period, which is usually 4 weeks. In any case, without a specific period being mentioned in law, a bid must be accepted within a reasonable period, otherwise it will lapse. In the event that a decision cannot be reached, or an appointment made for some time, the bidders should be approached in order to ensure that their bids are kept open. The problem for the contractors is that wages and salaries increase regularly, as do materials and other on-costs. [Pg.91]

Stage 2 Very mild decline Lapses of memory forgetting familiar names or locations of personal objects (e.g., keys or glasses) problems not evident to friends, family, coworkers, or health care professionals. [Pg.517]

In general, most converters are tested on the bench with the electronic load set to constant current (CC mode). True, that s not benign, nor as malignant as it gets. But the implied expectation is that converters should at least work in CC mode. They should, in particular, have no startup issues with this type of load profile. But even that may not be the end of the story Some loads can also vary with time. For example, an incandescent bulb has a resistive profile, but its cold resistance is much lower than its hot resistance. That s why most bulbs fail towards the end of their natural lifetime just when you throw the wall switch to its ON position. And if the converter is powering a system board characterized by sudden variations in its instantaneous supply current demand, that can cause severe problems to the converter, too. The best known example of this is an AC-DC power supply inside a computer. The 12V rail goes to the hard disk, which can suddenly demand very high currents as it spins up, and then lapse back equally suddenly into a lower current mode. [Pg.189]

Of course, the role of the artificially introduced stochastics for mimicking the effect of all eddies in a RANS-based particle tracking is much more pronounced than that for mimicking the effect of just the SGS eddies in a LES-based tracking procedure. In addition, the random variations may suffer from lacking the spatial or temporal correlations the turbulent fluctuations exhibit in real life. In RANS-based simulations, these correlations are not contained in the steady spatial distributions of k and e and (if applicable) the Reynolds stresses from which a typical turbulent time scale such as k/s may be derived. One may try and cure the problem of missing the temporal coherence in the velocity fluctuations by picking a new random value for the fluid s velocity only after a certain period of time has lapsed. [Pg.168]

The counselor or therapist helps the client develop a step-by-step response to a lapse/relapse scenario. Clients are oriented by being told that lapses or relapses are common among many people attempting to change drug problems, but that such events are not inevitable. Then clients are told that planning ahead for possible slips is prudent, since it allows for safety plans to be developed in case of emergency. The plans may never be implemented, but they are there if needed. [Pg.270]

A problem is encountered when the pressure cell is assembled, and before the pressure is applied. The reaction mixture reacts at atmospheric pressure for some time until the pressure is raised to its final value. The kinetics under pressure will then be dependent on the amount of reactants that previously reacted at atmospheric pressure and during the pressure increase. The same problem appears when the cell is disassembled if measurements can be done after pressure release only. It is, of course, of interest to make this time lapse as... [Pg.120]

All studies to date that have endeavored to use carbonate or phosphate fossils to infer paleoelevations have focused on stable isotope trends. This principal reliance on isotopes presents potentially serious problems on two fronts—the presumed constancy of isotopic lapse rates, and the required models of the impact of global climate change on local climate, independent of local topography. [Pg.145]

Several studies have shown that impairment of a person s cognitive or mental function can occur in people taking benzodiazepines. These effects can include problems such as lapses of memory, and confusion. For example, college students who take benzodiazepines before exams to help them relax or sleep may not remember some of what they have been studying. [Pg.74]
