The Transportation Vibration-Temperature Test is used to check the safety and operability of the fuze, since fuzes encounter a variety of vibration and temperature environments during logistic (land, sea and air) transportation conditions... [Pg.253]

While there are significant differences between what is required to drill a well on land and in a marine or offshore environment, the basic mission is very similar. The differences in location conditions, design criteria, logistical considerations and related cost are enormous, hi deepwater, the process can approach the most sophisticated technical operations known to man and an individual well can cost in excess of sixty million dollars, often to be paid early in the project life well before surety of the results of the effort is known. [Pg.647]

Each of the EPA s Offices is responsible for specialized areas involved with the protection of the environment and human health. The Office of the Administrator provides executive and logistical support for the EPA Administrator and the staff offices that directly support the Administrator. The Administrator is responsible to the President, and is assisted by the Deputy Administrator and staff offices. The Office of the Administrator supports the leadership of EPA s programs and activities to protect human health and safeguard the air, water, and land upon which life depends. [Pg.2893]

Shared Resources Caterpillar manages over 700,000 square feet of warehousing space and ships over 500 million of client product. CLS manages Logistics for Land Rover Parts which has 52% parts turnover in UK, 20% in Europe, 28% in the rest of the world. The customers are 57% private, 27% military (29 armies), and 16% commercial fleet. [Pg.130]

American scientists and support personnel who are scheduled to work in the Transantarctic Mountains or on the polar plateau of East Antarctica, in Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica, and at South Pole Station will, in most cases, depart from Christchurch, New Zealand, and fly to McMurdo Station which is located at the tip of the Hut Point Peninsula on Ross Island in Fig. 2.8 (Section 1.2). This site was originally selected in 1955 by Admiral George J. Dufek as a logistics base for Operation Deep Freeze in preparation for research to be carried out by American scientists during the IGY (1957-1958). The site was chosen because it is located in a broad basin adjacent to a deep harbor where supply ships can unload cargo either onto a floating ice dock or directly to the shore. These favorable conditions also caused Robert Scott in 1901 to select this site for his winter-over base where he set up his Discovery Hut in Fig. 2.9 which still contains some of the equipment and supplies that he and his men left behind (Section 1.4.1). [Pg.49]

The drill site chosen by EPICA is called Concordia Station and is located at 75°06 S and 123°2TE at an elevation of 3,233 m above sea level where the thickness of the East Antarctic ice sheet is 3,200 m. The consortium of scientists and logistics personnel from ten nations first drilled a hole at Kohnen Station in Queen Maud Land for comparison with the climate... [Pg.602]

The marine environment differentiates offshore work from that done onshore. Work is done on the water, in or with a boat under the water in diving operations or above the water, in or on a wind turbine. Weather is a factor for land-based work, but in the offshore environment, the weather and sea state (wind speed, wave height, visibility, etc.) are deciding factors. A typical offshore wind project will plan for significant downtime due to bad weather conditions. Unlike workers onshore, offshore technicians do not drive themselves to the work site but are transported by a vessel, which has its own crew. Offshore technicians are dependent on a complex logistical arrangement that includes transfer to and from a vessel or helicopter, coordination with other marine vessels, and extra marine rescue equipment (for example, an immersion suit). Training,... [Pg.33]
