Laminar air flow

Gravitational Methods GONELL AIR ELUTRIATOR. This is the prototype of all analytical separators with laminar air flow. It consists of a cylindrical brass tube (or a series of tubes) with a conical base. An air inlet is provided in this base on the axis of the tube. The sample of powder is placed in the inlet cone, and air is blown thru the largest tube until separation is deemed complete, or for specified periods of time. The residue is removed, weighed, and transferred to a smaller diameter tube, and the test is repeated. The tube should have polished internal surfaces and should be periodically tapped or vibrated to disturb settled powder... [Pg.511]

Exogenous sources such as a person s hair or skin, doorknobs, laboratory benches, dust, reagents, thermal cyclers, and pipet tips are some of the common sources of DNA contamination. Ideally, a laminar air flow bench with filtered air provides a clean, dust-free environment. Sample preparation should be done in a separate room or area. The addition of sample to the PCR reaction mixture in the... [Pg.16]

Datametrics Model lOOVT Air Flow Meter. Measurements were taken at various locations above the soil or water surface at a height of 0.8 cm, where the laminar air flow velocity was greatest. Depending on the probe location relative to the air dispersion tube, the measured wind speed varied from 0.5 to 1.5 m/s, with an average of 1 m/s. At greater heights above the surface, the air flow rate was much lower and the air flow patterns were unknown. [Pg.283]

There should be undisturbed laminar air flow above the machinery and exhaust of the air. The average air velocities should be as follows 0.4 to 0.5 m/s with a lower limit of 0.4 m/s at each measure point. [Pg.327]

A harmonized classification was issued recently with ISO 14644-1, with reference to the classification terminology and also with units (now in m3). Rooms classified as ISO class 5, 7, or 8, correspond respectively to US categories 100, 10.000, or 100.000 (SBCC, 2005). The key element of the ISO class 5 is laminar air flow, a mass of air that flows at a controlled and low rate and so drags particles without turbulence. These are generally represented by air flow cabinets (islands of ISO class 5). [Pg.354]

Grade A The local zone for high risk operations, e.g., filling zone, stopper bowls, open ampoules and vials, making aseptic connections. Normally such conditions are provided by a laminar air flow work station. Laminar air flow systems should provide an homogeneous air speed of 0.45m/s +/-20% (guidance value) at the working position. [Pg.147]

Open circuit operations involving products or components not subsequently sterilized should be carried out within a laminar air flow work station (grade A) in a grade area. [Pg.179]

The introduction or removal of material should take place using a steriiizabie closed system, or possibly in an appropriate laminar air flow. [Pg.180]

When necessary, for instance when two or more fermentors are within a single area, sampling and addition ports, and connectors (after connection, before the flow of product, and again before disconnection) should be sterilized with steam. In other circumstances, chemical disinfection of ports and laminar air flow protection of connections may be acceptable. [Pg.182]
