Labeling species

A multistep synthesis is strategically designed such that the labeled species is introduced as close to the last synthetic step as possible in order to minimize yield losses and cost. Use of indirect reaction sequences frequently maximizes the yield of the radioactive species at the expense of time and labor. [Pg.437]

It has been reported recently that 17/ -acetoxy-5a,14a-androstan epimerizes at C-14 when photolyzed in cyclohexane solution in the presence of mercuric bromide. When the reaction is carried out in perdeuterated cyclohexane, the product consists of 55 % d - and 12% d2-labeled species. The period under review has seen a small, but apparently real, decrease in the annual number of publications in the field of the vibrational spectroscopy of transition metal carbonyls. Perhaps more important, and not unrelated, has been the change in perspective of the subject over the last few years. Not unfrequently, however, these additional Raman data have been obtained from studies on crystalline samples, a procedure which, in view of the additional spectral features which can occur with crystalline solids (vide infra), must be regarded as questionable. Indirect methods for immunofluorescent detection of multiple tissue antigens in their simplest form make use of primary antibodies that are raised in different species and accordingly can be visualized with differently labeled species-specific secondary antibodies (see Sect. 8.1). However, quite often the appropriate combination of primary antibodies from different host species is not available. A general problem relates to the fact that the available primary antibodies may originate only from one species either rabbit or mouse.
