Know Nothings

The integrity of products depends upon the quality of the devices used to create and measure their characteristics. This part of the standard specifies requirements for ensuring the quality of such devices. If the devices you use to create and measure characteristics are inaccurate, unstable, damaged, or in any way defective, the product will not possess the required characteristics and furthermore you will not know it. You know nothing about an object until you can measure it, but you must measure it accurately and precisely. Hence the devices you use need to be controlled. 

The second challenge is called the argument from ignorance. Any discussion of future people and their happiness, their needs and preferences, their rights and interests, forces us to make assumptions about who those people might be and what they will be like. But realistically, we know nothing about who they will be, what they will want or need, or even if they will exist at all. Since we are ignorant of future people, we have little basis to speak about our responsibilities to them. 

An explanation of potential energy involves an explanation of force both terms are simply another way of saying that we know nothing about the thing to be explained. A distinct advance is made when a force can be explained in terms of the kinetic energy of a system in motion, an illustration of which is afforded by the kinetic theory of gases, which replaced the supposed forces of repulsion between the molecules of gases (the existence of which is disproved by Joule s experiment, 73) by molecular impacts.
