The reduction of nitrite by Klebsiella pneumoniae gives 5% N20 and 95% NH4+. Mutants defective in the reduction of nitrite to ammonium ions produced dinitrogen monoxide at rates comparable to the parent strain. This suggests that the nitrite reductase giving N20 was distinct from that producing NH4+.1535... [Pg.727]

Pre-steady-state stopped-flow and rapid quench techniques applied to Mo nitrogenase have provided powerful approaches to the study of this complex enzyme. These studies of Klebsiella pneumoniae Mo nitrogenase showed that a pre-steady-state burst in ATP hydrolysis accompanied electron transfer from the Fe protein to the MoFe protein, and that during the reduction of N2 an enzyme-bound dinitrogen hydride was formed, which under denaturing conditions could be trapped as hydrazine. A comprehensive model developed from a computer simulation of the kinetics of these reactions and the kinetics of the pre-steady-state rates of product formation (H2, NH3) led to the formulation of Scheme 1, the Thorneley and Lowe scheme (50) for nitrogenase function. [Pg.96]

FIGRE 2. Evolution of cleanup and volatilization rates according to the time obtained while immobilizing Klebsiella pneumoniae in different supports in continuous fluidized reactor. 250 gM of Hg2+ is added daily. [Pg.278]

The volatilization rate of mercury obtained by fixing Klebsiella pneumoniae on vermiculite is superior to those obtained by immobilizing the bacterial stain on cooper beech or in polyacrylamide gel. However the entrapment of Klebsiella pneumoniae in alginate offers the greatest epurifing performances as well as the biggest stability of the bioreacteur. All the more the hydrodynamic behavior of the beads, in fluidized bed reactor, is very satisfactory. [Pg.279]

In a single-center prospective comparison of intravenous colistin ( =200) and imipenem, meropenem, or ampicillin/sul-bactam (n=295) the 30-day mortality rates were 39% versus 29% respectively [110. The difference also reached statistical significance in the subgroup of patients with infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae (40/104, 39% versus 18/80, 23% OR=2.2 95% Cl = 1.1, 4.2). Treatment with colistin was significantly associated with death (overall adjusted HR =1.3 95% CI = 1.01, 1.6). Renal insufficiency was more frequent among patients treated with colistin (adjusted OR >3). After 3 months follow-up the use of colistin was associated with a higher rate of resistant Proteus species. [Pg.413]

Continuous fermentations have also been used to improve PDO productivity. In a continuous Klebsiella pneumoniae fermentation, when glycerol was added in excess at an inlet substrate feed of approximately 74 g/1, PDO and various by-product acids were the major products. Under glycerol limitation (an inlet concentration of approximately 15 g/1), ethanol and hydrogen were the major products. The effect could be monitored by the evolution rates of hydrogen and C02- In glycerol excess, CO2... [Pg.115]

For example, a foal with Klebsiella spp. pneumonia is to be treated with gentamicin. The MIC of gentamicin for Klebsiella spp. is 2 xg/ml. The desired plasma concentration would be 10 times the MIC, which is 20 pg/ml. The of gentamicin in the foal is 0.31/kg. The dose rate calculated is ... [Pg.20]
