Kitchen range

Cooker hood A device to collect cooking fumes from above a kitchen range and discharge them to the outside. It may incorporate a grease filter, fan, and fire damper or non-return flow damper. [Pg.1425]

Traditionally, residential mechanical equipment has been treated as independent devices that have little or no impact on the rest of the building other than the obvious stated purpose. Bath fans, dryers, and kitchen ranges are assumed to exhaust moisture, lint, and cooking by-products, but to have no impact on the performance of chimneys. Instances have been reported that show that this is not the case in some houses where the fireplaces and other combustion appliances backdraft52 when one or more of the exhaust fans are in operation. Houses have been reported in which the operation of exhaust devices increases the radon concentration.53 Houses have been found in which pressure differences between different rooms of the house caused by HVAC distribution fans have increased energy costs,54 occupant discomfort,54,55 condensation of the building shell,55 and radon concentrations in parts of the houses.29,56 All of these effects are the result of air pressure relationships created by the interaction of equipment, indoor/outdoor temperature differences, wind velocity, and moisture and radon availability. [Pg.1295]

You have learned that some chemical reactions and processes must absorb energy in order to occur. These are called endothermic reactions. Others release energy and are called exothermic reactions. Whenever you cook food using methane or propane gas in your kitchen range, you utilize the heat released in the combustion of these fuels. But how do you measure the amount of heat released or absorbed when chemical reactions such as these occur ... [Pg.496]

Voltage- A measure of electrical potential. Most homes are wired with 110 and 220 volt lines. The 110 volt power is used for lighting and most of the other circuits. The 220 volt power is usually used for the kitchen range, hot... [Pg.293]

Dry-chemical extinguishing systems are used to protect flammable-liquid storage rooms, dip tanks, kitchen range hoods, deep-fat fryers, and similar hazardous areas and appliances. Because dry chemical is nonconductive, these systems are useful in the protection of oil-filled transformers and circuit breakers. Dry-chemical systems are not recommended for tele-phone-switchboard or computer protection. Dry chemicals are also widely used in portable fire extinguishers. [Pg.363]

The concept of a passive-safety reactor KAMADO (in Japanese a Japanese traditional kitchen range for cooking with firewood) was proposed in 2001 by the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI), Japan. The KAMADO concept is based on a synthesis of the design approaches used in light water reactors, the heavy water reactor FUGEN [Xni-1] and pool type research reactors. [Pg.405]

The coating thickness may range from 0.0025 to 0.05 mm, depending on the type of protection required. Pure tin coatings are used on food-processing equipment, milk cans, kitchen implements, electronic and electrical components, fasteners, steel and copper wire, pins, automotive bearings, and pistons. [Pg.61]

The principal application of melamine-formaldehyde moulding compositions is for the manufacture of tableware, largely because of their wide colour range, surface hardness and stain resistance. The stain resistance does, however, leave something to be desired and one aim of current research is to discover alternative materials superior in this respect. Cellulose-filled compositions also find a small outlet for trays, clock cases and radio cabinets and other purposes. The mineral-filled powders are used in electrical applications and knobs and handles for kitchen utensils. [Pg.685]

Air extraction cooker hood A range hood positioned above kitchen cooking equipment, designed to collect without spillage the plume generated at the range. [Pg.1408]

The main application is in the form of tinplate. Apart from its use for containers mentioned earlier, tinplate is made into domestic and industrial kitchen equipment, light engineering products and toys. For most of these purposes, coatings in the thickness range 0-4-2-5 im, with or without organic finishes, are used. For returnable containers and more permanent articles such as fuel tanks and gas-meter cases, heavier coatings of up to 15 m may be necessary. [Pg.508]

Saquinavir. SQV was first shown in vitro to have potent HIV-1 inhibition in acutely infected cells with an IC50 in the subnanomolar range and to inhibit viral maturation in chronically infected cells at 10 nM (Craig et al. 1991). Subsequently, clinical trials with SQV monotherapy in HIV-1 infected men at concentrations up to 600 mg three times a day for 16 weeks resulted in a decrease in HIV-1 RNA of 80% (0.71ogio) (Kitchen et al. 1995). These and other data facilitated SQV in becoming the first FDA-approved PI in December 1995. In its original formulation. [Pg.89]

I lay awake for what felt like hours. In the end I gave up, put on my dressing gown, and went downstairs to make some cocoa. The range had got going well enough to warm the kitchen, but I used the electric kettle so as not to lift the lid. [Pg.225]

Polycarbonate can be readily injection molded. Polycarbonates typically require only a short injection molding cycle time, because the polymer flows into the mold easily and solidifies rapidly. We injection mold polycarbonate to produce a wide variety of commercial goods, including compact disks, jewel cases, aircraft windows, kitchen utensils, and clear refrigerators drawers. Polycarbonates are also found in a wide range of disposable medical devices, such as the flow locks on intravenous tubes and the hard, disposable components of dialysis machines. Impact resistant polycarbonate is used to manufacture sports and other safety helmets. Glass fiber reinforced polycarbonate is used in the housings for power tools. [Pg.323]
