Killer condition

In the CWC context, one ton of chemical was once mentioned in the US Senate as a criterion for militarily significant violation . It is rather debatable, however, whether that could carry any significant weight in determining what would be a militarily significant violation of the CWC indeed, not only was it one of the killer conditions designed to block approval of the CWC by the Senate but it was finally struck out. ... [Pg.82]

With a strong orthogonality condition imposed on the scattered electron orbital, fulfilling the killer condition Po) = 0 the Auger amplitude resulting from the Fermi golden rule expression (Eq. 3.37) takes the form... [Pg.163]

Two of the biggest health problems that overweight individuals face are a greatly elevated risk of heart disease and stroke. The American Heart Association (AHA) has found a direct link between these health conditions and being overweight. Heart disease is now the number-one killer of women in the United States, and the rise of overweight and obesity can be directly correlated to it.2... [Pg.12]

Perez, L. and Lysle, D.T., Corticotropin-releasing hormone is involved in conditioned stimulus-induced reduction of natural killer cell activity but not in conditioned alterations in cytokine production or proliferation responses, J. Neuroimmunol., 63, 1, 1995. [Pg.182]

Stress is frequently a trigger factor for depression in vulnerable patients. There is clinical evidence to show that CRT is elevated in the cerebrospinal fluid of untreated depressed patients, which presumably leads to the hypercortisolaemia that usually accompanies the condition. One of the consequences of elevated plasma glucocorticoids is a suppression of some aspects of cellular immunity. It is now established that many cellular (for example, natural killer cell activity, T-cell replication) and non-cellular (for example, raised acute phase proteins) aspects are abnormal in the untreated depressed patient. Such observations could help to explain the susceptibility of depressed patients to physical ill health. [Pg.167]

In 1936 Sinox, a dinitro selective weed killer, was introduced and widely used, not only in cereal crops but in peas, onions, flax, and other important crops. In the early forties a private dealer in the Salinas Valley of California discovered the selective herbicidal use of stove oil in carrot crops. As war conditions made labor scarce and military demands called for increased production, this proved a great boon to the vegetable growers. [Pg.70]

The effects of marijuana on immune function have been reviewed (122). The studies suggest that marijuana affects immune cell function of T and B lymphocytes, natural killer cells, and macrophages. In addition, cannabis appears to modulate host resistance, especially the secondary immune response to various infectious agents, both viral and bacterial. Lastly, marijuana may also affect the cytokine network, influencing the production and function of acute-phase and immune cytokines and modulating network cells, such as macrophages and T helper cells. Under some conditions, marijuana may be immunomodulatory and promote disease. [Pg.481]

Carbon monoxide is a very dangerous chemical. It is gaseous at room conditions, and it is colorless, odorless, and highly toxic. It is often referred to as the "silent killer."... [Pg.7]
