Kidneys filtration

An alternative fate for the GSH conjugate is transportation via the blood to the kidney, filtration out of the blood and in the brush border of the tubular cells glutamyltransferase, and cleavage of the conjugate by a dipeptidase to yield the cysteine conjugate. The cysteine conjugate is then taken up by the amino acid transporter system into the proximal tubular cell where toxicity occurs. The result of this is then basically the same as the other scenario. [Pg.330]

Glomureli are the fine blood vessels entering and leaving the Bowman s capsule that is part of the kidneys filtration unit, called nephron. [Pg.86]

The molecular weight of the polymer must be high enough to prevent too-rapid kidney filtration. [Pg.288]

Capillaries in the Kidney. Filtration in the kidney occurs across a specialized capillary in the glomerulus. The glomerular capillary has several layers a monolayer of endothelial cells that interface with the flowing blood, an acellular basement membrane, and a filtration layer formed by glomerular epithelial cells. The endothelium is fenestrated that is, there are numerous... [Pg.145]

A study in 6 healthy subjects given a 250-mg oral dose of chlorpropamide found that when the urine was made alkaline (pH 7.1 to 8.2) with sodium bicarbonate, the half-life of the chlorpropamide was reduced from 50 to 13 hours, and the 72-hour clearance was increased fourfold. In contrast, when the urine was acidified (pH 5.5 to 4.7) with ammonium chloride, the chlorpropamide half-life was increased from 50 to 69 hours and the 72-hour urinary clearance was decreased to 5%, and non-renal (i.e. metabolic) clearance predominated. Another study found that the renal clearance of chlorpropamide was almost 100 times greater at pH 7 than at pH 5. The reasons are that changes in urinary pH affect the ionisation of the chlorpropamide, and this affects the ability of the kidney to reabsorb it from the kidney filtrate (see more details under Drug excretion interac-... [Pg.514]

Higher molecular weight of the carrier decreases kidney filtration and increases passive tumor accumulation. [Pg.147]

Spherical polymers with rigid conformation have longer circulation time and deaeased kidney filtration compared to flexible and nonspherical polymers. [Pg.147]

Drug interactions occur with many commonly prescribed medications and are mostly due to naproxen s effects on renal prostaglandins and the associated changes in kidney filtration rate, although many other mechanisms exist. Many drug interactions exist, with examples being ACE inhibitors, beta blockers, methotrexate, lithium, probenecid, antiplatelet agents, diuretics, and vancomycin. [Pg.224]

If Maillard reaction products are formed in embryonic and, mainly, in fetal life (albeit at a slower pace as the natural biology of the reactions seems to indicate), their elimination by kidney filtration poses a problem, since the latter much lower in fetal life Indeed, proximal tubular function is also characteristically poor in the fetus, which is not surprising since the growth of the fetal kidney in the latter stages of gestation is characterized by intense... [Pg.128]

There are several drawbacks of using dendrimers in drug-delivery applications. Dendrimers are very expensive and difficult to produce on a large scale. Further, they are typically very small, with a diameter of a few nanometres, which results in them being rapidly cleared from the blood stream by kidney filtration (Figure 2.8) [29]. [Pg.15]
