Journey structure examples

Write brief descriptions, using the present tense, of two quite different main characters as they go about their lives. Be sure to choose characters that engage you and situations you know something about. End each description with an encounter or incident that would make for a change in the character s situation. Set up one synopsis as if for a short script in which you employ the journey structure, and the other for a screenplay in which you use the ritual occasion. At this point, don t concern yourself with plot, although if ideas occur to you, be sure to jot them down for possible later use. Here are a couple of examples to illustrate we turned to the short films described above for inspiration ... [Pg.15]

Forgotten Chemistry provides you with the tools and skills you will need for your journey into chemistry. The presentation of concepts and strategies in small, easier to manage packets offers you an opportunity to learn, practice, and then build on these skills. Each example is laid out in full detail so that the example itself answers your questions as you examine it. The examples are structured to cover all variations of the topic at hand so it is advisable to analyze each one. Every topic discussed is accompanied by questions and answers designed to strengthen your understanding and improve your confidence. [Pg.264]

The examples of interwoven and knotted structures have prevailed in all walks of architecture, symbolism and art, and it is not our aim here to give an exhaustive list of where one may encounter different representations of knots. Be that as it may, this short journey through the history of knot representation would not be complete without mentioning the great Dutch graphical artist M.C. Escher, whose beautiful representations of the Mobius strip and the trefoil knot are renowned. They prove a great inspiration for chemists wishing to adorn the covers of chemistry journals. [Pg.112]

But we ve been on an excellent journey. We have examined the structure and behavior of minute particles of matter, and we have seen how their microscopic properties multiply to form the world around us. We surveyed classical chemistry and demonstrated these lively reactions with ordinary materials. We have seen how chemistry relates to everyday experience, and we ve developed an intuitive understanding of the essentials of chemistry by example and analogy. We ve seen how principles and theory derived in the past have showered us with a wealth of technology and materials—and we have seen the challenges that lie ahead. In this new millennium, there will be new medicines and innovative... [Pg.337]

Furthermore, the dams huilt for hydroelectric power plants, for example, cut off access to the spawning grounds of anadromous, migratory salmon or the American shad. These fish must return upriver to lay their eggs. To facilitate the return journey, fish lifts, ladders, or elevators are in place at many dams. These structures, which help fish move upstream, also help to avoid the disruption of the local hahitat. [Pg.1011]

The purpose of providing a brief overview on recent reviews of nanocomposite materials that discuss synthesis, structure properties, and applications is to bring to the reader s attention the nascence of this field and justify the rare availability of degradation studies of these materials when we have only recently embarked on our journey to understanding the fundamentals about them. Nevertheless, a few examples of degradation studies of nanocomposite materials are provided with the hope of advances towards mechanistic aspects of degradation with nanomaterials components. Chrisaffis et al [56, 57] report studies on the decomposition mechanisms of syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) nanocomposites with two different types of nano fillers multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and carbon nanodiamonds (NDs). sPS is a semicrystalline polymer considered to be a... [Pg.155]

This approach has been expanded to the synthesis of other materials, for example, 79 and 80 While the product structures appear similar with respect to reactants, the mechanisms offered to transverse this journey are varied. [Pg.247]
