Joining replacement

The hydrocarbon gas feedstock and Hquid sulfur are separately preheated in an externally fired tubular heater. When the gas reaches 480—650°C, it joins the vaporized sulfur. A special venturi nozzle can be used for mixing the two streams (81). The mixed stream flows through a radiantly-heated pipe cod, where some reaction takes place, before entering an adiabatic catalytic reactor. In the adiabatic reactor, the reaction goes to over 90% completion at a temperature of 580—635°C and a pressure of approximately 250—500 kPa (2.5—5.0 atm). Heater tubes are constmcted from high alloy stainless steel and reportedly must be replaced every 2—3 years (79,82—84). Furnaces are generally fired with natural gas or refinery gas, and heat transfer to the tube coil occurs primarily by radiation with no direct contact of the flames on the tubes. Design of the furnace is critical to achieve uniform heat around the tubes to avoid rapid corrosion at "hot spots."... 

All but two of the bolts Joining the relief valve to the flare header are removed. The sealing plate is then inserted between the relief valve and the flare header. It is secured by special bolts with small heads that pass through the bolt holes in the relief-valve flange but not through the holes in the sealing plate. The last two bolts can then be removed and the relief valve removed. To replace the relief valve the procedure is reversed [2]. 

Finite element methods [20,21] have replaced finite difference methods in many fields, especially in the area of partial differential equations. With the finite element approach, the continuum is divided into a number of finite elements that are assumed to be joined by a discrete number of points along their boundaries. A function is chosen to represent the variation of the quantity over each element in terms of the value of the quantity at the boundary points. Therefore a set of simultaneous equations can be obtained that will produce a large, banded matrix.

If it is desired to use the biamperometric method for detecting the end point, then the calomel electrode and also the silver rod (if used) must be removed and replaced by two platinum plates 1.25 cm x 1.25 cm. The potentiometer (or pH meter) used to measure the e.m.f. must also be removed, and one of the indicator electrodes is then joined to a sensitive galvanometer fitted with a variable shunt. The indicator circuit is completed through a potential divider...

Very often it is found more convenient to replace a right-angle bend by a T-joint made right at the end of the drawn-off cross-piece. This makes a very neat right-angle join in tubing which has too large a diameter to bend easily.
