Joining methods and techniques for polypropylene composites

In order to close the gap between possible technical application of endless fiber reinforced composite material and the actual practice, limited by consolidation and forming processes, various joining techniques were adapted and developed for glass fiber reinforced PP (GF/PP). [Pg.366]

Gluing, adhesion bonding (see also Adhesive bonding of pol5rpropy-lene in this book) has to be ruled out, because in most cases the bond strength of glued pol)nneric composites is not sufficient or very large [Pg.367]

Other methods (e.g. ultrasonic welding) are too expensive due to high investment costs. In addition, they do not allow a flexible production. To apply the above methods for GF/PP composites with high GF volume fraction successfully and on industrial scale, it is still necessary to cany out some fundamental studies. [Pg.368]

If metallic material is used as welding aids (e.g. wire) stresses arise in the seam. This fact and also the relatively long cycle times are the disadvantages of induction welding. [Pg.370]

Joinings produced with clinching possess a high strength. The only requirement for the joining of different materials is the existence of a [Pg.371]
