Cubeb, Tailed pepper Java pepper. Dried, unripe, nearly full-grown fruit of Piper cubeba L.f., Piperaceae. Habit. Southern Asia, Java, Borneo, Sumatra cultivated in W. Indies and Ceylon. Barries are globular. 4-5 mm in diameter blackish-gray intern, whitish and hollow strong, spicy odor aromatic, pungent taste. Canstit. 10-18% volatile oil. cubebin, about 1% cubebic acid, resin, fat, wax. Total ether extractive about 20%. [Pg.409]

Cubebanes and ivaxillaranes represent 1,6- and 8,10-cycloguaianes, respectively. The fruits of Java pepper Piper cubeba (Piperaceae) contain (-)-4-cubebanol. The name ivaxillarane stems from Iva axillaris with (-)-ivaxillarin as a constituent. [Pg.40]
