Jatrorrhiza palmata

Jateorhiza Jatrorrhiza) palmata Lam. (Miers). Columbamine, jatrorrhizine, palmatine. [Pg.329]

Jatrorrhizine is a bioactive protoberberine alkaloid present in Colombo radix (Jatrorrhiza palmata) widely used in both oriental and western medicine. [Pg.749]

CALUMBA ROOT, Calumbae radix Other antipropulsive drugs include Ca-lumba root which is the root of Jatrorrhiza palmata, Miers, family Menispermaceae, a wild-growing liana in East Africa. It contains the alkaloids jatrorrhizine and palmatine with effects on smooth muscles like morphine. [Pg.58]

Calurabo. Colombo. Root of Jatrorrhiza palmata (DC.) Miers (/. cohtmba Miers), Menispermaceae. Habit. Eastern Africa. Constit. Columbia, chasmanthin, palmarin (isomer of chasmanthin), jatrorrhizine, columbic add, co-lumbamine contains no tannin Barton, Elad, J. Chem. Soc. [Pg.259]

Perhaps the most well-known peroxidase-catalyzed reactions are those involving electron transfer, in which an aromatic substrate is oxidized in a mono-electronic oxidation up to its mono-radical, Eq. (1), which is capable of participating further in a variety of non-enzymatic reactions such as disproportionation, polymerization and electron transfer. These types of reactions are very common during the peroxidase-catalyzed oxidation of phenols and, in some cases, during the oxidation of alkaloids. For example, peroxidase is capable of dimerizing jatrorrhizine (IV) to 4,4 -bis-jatrorrhizine (V) in the presence of H2O2 (Scheme III) [50], Jatrorrhizine is a bioactive protoberberine alkaloid present in Colombo radix (Jatrorrhiza palmata) widely used in both oriental and western medicine. [Pg.749]

A new tetrahydroprotoberbine alkaloid is tetrahydrothalifendine (132), found in Thalictrum fendleri Engelm. ex Gray (Ranunculaceae). The first known dimeric proto berberine alkaloid is bisjatrorrhizine (133), obtained from the root of Jatrorrhiza palmata (Lam.) Miers (Menispermaceae) and synthesized by oxidative dimerization of jatrorrhizine. ... [Pg.144]

These are the most bitter tasting of all terpenoid compounds, responsible for the acclaimed stomachic and tonic properties of herbs such as marrubiin in horehound, Marrubium vulgare (Lamiaceae), and calumbin from calnmba, Jatrorrhiza palmata (Berberidaceae). They occnr as acyclic, cyclic, bi- tri- and tetracyclic compounds (referring to the number of carbon rings present), while many are also lactones. Some are chiral molecules, indicated by the prefix ent —for enantiomers. [Pg.64]
