A further improvement is to move one solvent past the other in the opposite direction. This countercurrent technique can not only separate several compounds from a sample but can separate them from each other at the same time. This is then a combination of an extraction and a chromatographic separation. The coil planet centrifuge, developed by Ito, is discussed in Chapter 11. [Pg.92]
