Italy university structure

With the onset of World War 11, politics began to interfere with his research. Debye was actually forbidden to enter the Max Planck Institute which he directed because he refused to accept German citizenship. Despite obstruction by the German government, he left Germany by way of Italy and came to the United States. In 1940 he was appointed professor of chemistry and head of the department of chemistry at Cornell University. Six years later, he became an American citizen. During the war years his research turned toward the structure and particle size of high polymers. [Pg.320]

Stefano Bettati received his MS degree from the University of Parma in 1992, defending a thesis on The allosteric regulation of the enzyme tryptophan synthase, and his Ph.D. degree in 1998 from the University of Modena, by working on hemoglobin. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the laboratory of Chemical Physics, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA, from 1999 to 2000. At present he is a full professor at Applied Physics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Parma, Italy. His current research interests are mainly in structure, function, and dynamics relationships of PLP-dependent enzymes, heme proteins, and green fluorescent proteins. [Pg.348]

Chromatography seems to have been around for a long time in its current state, so it is difficult to believe that the first reported work naming and using chromatography was just over 100 years ago. Mikhail Semenovich Tswett (1872-1919) was born in a small town in Italy but grew up in Switzerland with his father. In later life, he went on to study botany at university in Geneva and, by 1896, he had completed the work and write-up for his doctoral thesis, for which he carried out work on the structure of the plant cell, chloroplasts, and the movement of protoplasm. [Pg.1]

Giorgio Montaudo, Ph.D. is a Professor of industrial chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, University of Catania, Italy and Director of the Institute for Chemistry Technology of Polymeric Materials of the National Cormcil of Research of Italy, Catania. Dr. Montaudo received a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Catania. He was a postdoctoral associate at tire Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (1966) and at tire University of Michigan (1967-68 and 1971) and he was a Humboldt Foundation Fellow, 1973 at Mainz University. Dr. Montaudo has been active in the field of the synthesis, degradation, and characterization of polymeric materials. A major section of his activity has been dedicated to develop mass spectrometry of polymers as analytical and structural tools for the analysis of polymers. He is tire author of more than 300 publications in international journals and chapters in books. [Pg.9]
