Isomerization forms

A monosubstituted cyclohexane, e.g. methylcyclohexane, exists theoretically in two isomeric forms with a chair-form ring, and the methyl substituent either axial or equatorial. Since these rapidly interconverl through a CH3... [Pg.109]

The fact that a mixed azoxy-compound, such as p toluencrazoxy-benzene, CH3CgH4NO NCgH5, exists in two isomeric forms, disproves the earlier symmetric formula (A) alloted to azoxybenzene, and C H N C H N >0 confirms the formula (B), in which... [Pg.213]

Although a compound such as (II) could theoretically exist in a number of geometrically isomeric forms, only one form is produced in this synthesis it is almost certainly the trans form throughout the chain. [Pg.238]

Sorbic acid could theoretically, by virtue of the two olefine linkages, exi.st in four geometrical I y-isomeric forms. The above synthesis gives only one form, which is undoubtedly the trans-trans form, analogous to the acu-diphenylpolyenes (p. 238) which are also normally produced solely in one form. [Pg.280]

The coupling of alkenylboranes with alkenyl halides is particularly useful for the stereoselective synthesis of conjugated dienes of the four possible double bond isomers[499]. The E and Z forms of vinylboron compounds can be prepared by hydroboration of alkynes and haloalkynes, and their reaction with ( ) or (Z)-vinyl iodides or bromides proceeds without isomerization, and the conjugated dienes of four possible isomeric forms can be prepared in high purity. [Pg.221]

Deviation includes, in fact, the summation of steric and electronic effects, and basicity is somewhat a useful predictor for properties of complex dyes (solvent sensitivity, isomeric forms of trinuclear dyes) and gives also semiquantitative data for color structure relation (atomic)... [Pg.71]

As mentioned earlier, a potential energy surface may contain saddle points , that is, stationary points where there are one or more directions in which the energy is at a maximum. Asaddle point with one negative eigenvalue corresponds to a transition structure for a chemical reaction of changing isomeric form. Transition structures also exist for reactions involving separated species, for example, in a bimolecular reaction... [Pg.17]

Propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, and tripropylene glycol all have several isomeric forms. Propylene glycol has one asymmetric carbon and thus there are two enantiomers (R)-I,2-propanediol and (3)-1,2-propanediol. 1,3-Propanediol is a stmctural isomer. Dipropylene glycol exists in three stmctural forms and since each stmctural isomer has two asymmetric carbons there are four possible stereochemical isomers per stmcture or a total of twelve isomers. These twelve consist of four enantiomer pairs and two meso- compounds. Tripropylene glycol has four stmctural isomers and each stmctural isomer has... [Pg.366]

Trialkyl esters of phosphonic acid exist ia two structurally isomeric forms. The trialkylphosphites, P(OR)2, are isomers of the more stable phosphonates, 0=PR(0R)2, and the former may be rearranged to resemble the latter with catalytic quantities of alkylating agent. The dialkyl alkylphosphonates are used as flame retardants, plasticizers, and iatermediates. The MichaeUs-Arbusov reaction may be used for a variety of compound types, including mono- and diphosphites having aryl as weU as alkyl substituents (22). Triaryl phosphites do not readily undergo the MichaeUs-Arbusov reaction, although there are a few special cases. [Pg.375]

Qiana, introduced by Du Pont in 1968 but later withdrawn from the market, was made from bis(4-aminocyclohexyl)methane and dodecanedioic acid. This diamine exists in several cis—trans and trans—trans isomeric forms that influence fiber properties such as shrinkage. The product offered silk-like hand and luster, dimensional stabiUty, and wrinkle resistance similar to polyester. The yam melted at 280°C, had a high wet glass-transition temperature of - 85° C and a density of 1.03 g/cm, the last was lower than that of nylon-6 and nylon-6,6. Qiana requited a carrier for effective dyeing (see Dye carriers). [Pg.260]

Applications. The capabiHties of a gc/k/ms in separating and identifying components in complex mixtures is very high for a broad spectmm of analytical problems. One area where k information particularly complements ms data is in the differentiation of isomeric compounds. An example is in the analysis of tricresyl phosphates (TCPs) used as additives in a variety of products because of thek lubricating and antiwear characteristics (see Lubrication and lubricants). One important use of TCPs is in hydrauHc fluid where they tenaciously coat metal surfaces thereby reducing friction and wear. Tricresyl phosphate [1330-78-5] (7.2 21 exists in a variety of isomeric forms and the commercial product is a complex mixture of these isomers. [Pg.402]

The compounds of this article, ie, ftve-membered heterocycles containing two adjacent nitrogen atoms, can best be discussed according to the number of double bonds present. Pyrazoles contain two double bonds within the nucleus, imparting an aromatic character to these molecules. They are stable compounds and can display the isomeric forms, (1) and (2), when properly substituted. Pyrazoles are scarce ia nature when compared to the imidazoles (3), which are widespread and have a central role ia many biological processes. [Pg.305]

The pyrrolines or dihydropyrroles can exist in three isomeric forms 1-pyrroline (3,4-dihyro-2JT-pyrrole [5724-81-2]) (16) is an unstable material that resiniftes upon exposure to air 2-pyrroline (2,3-dihydro-lJT-pyrrole [638-31-3]) (17) is even more unstable only 3-pyrroline (2,5-dihydro-lJT-pyrrole [109-96-6]) (18) is reasonably stable. 3-Pyrroline bods at 91°C and has a density of 0.9097 g/cm and a refractive index of 1.4664. [Pg.356]

Gitronellol Manufacture. CitroneUol is found widely in nature and in both optically isomeric forms. Prior to the development of synthetic citroneUol, this alcohol was obtained from certain oils of the Kosaceae family or by hydrogenation of citroneUal isolated from citroneUa oil. CitroneUol has a floral odor resembling that of roses. [Pg.421]

When a boron atom of a borane is replaced by a heteroelement, the compounds are called carbaboranes, phosphaboranes, thiaboranes, a2aboranes, etc, by an adaptation of organic replacement nomenclature. The numbering of the skeleton in heteroboranes is such that the heteroelement is given the lowest possible number consistent with the conventions of the parent borane. Thus C2B2H is dicarba- /(9j (9-pentaborane(5) and could occur as the 1,2-, 2,3-, or 1,5-isomeric forms (l,2-dicarba- /(9j (9-pentaborane(5) [23777-70-0] 2,3-dicarba- /(9j (9-pentaborane(5) [30396-61-3] and... [Pg.228]

Arachno Clusters 2n + 6 Systems). In comparison to the number of known closo and nido boranes and heteroboranes, there are relatively fewer arachno species. Partly because of the lack of a large number of stmctures on which to base empirical rules, arachno stmctures appear to be less predictable than their closo and nido counterparts. For example, there are two isomeric forms of one with the arachno [19465-30-6] framework shown... [Pg.230]

With the exception of gasoHne grade /-butyl alcohol (GTBA), the butanols are generally marketed in bulk in the pure isomeric form. ASTM specifications (29) for n-, iso- and j -butyl alcohol are given in Table 3. Butanol specification purity is routinely obtained by gas chromatography (30). [Pg.358]

Dichloroethylene consists of a mixture of the cis and trans isomers, as manufactured. The physical properties of both isomeric forms are Hsted ia Table 1. Biaary and ternary a2eotrope data for the cis and trans isomers are given ia Table 2. [Pg.19]

The photolysis of the diazopyrazolone (369 X = N2, R = Me) in methanol yields two isomeric forms of methyl 3-phenylazo-2-butenoate (394) (80CC1263). The azo esters may arise via protonation of the carbene (395) with a concurrent opening of the ring by the nucleophilic solvent. [Pg.252]

An isomeric form of the anion that is initially formed is converted to the aU-cis system rapidly at room temperature.Data on the equilibrium acidity of the parent hydrocarbon are not available, so the stability of the anion cannot be judged quantitatively. The NMR spectrum of the anion, however, is indicative of aromatic character. [Pg.526]

There has been much confusion over the structure of these compounds but their diamagnetism has long ruled out a monomeric formulation, H2PO3. In fact, as shown in Table 12.7, isomeric forms are known (a) hypophosphoric acid and hypophosphates in which both P atoms are identical and there is a direct P-P bond (h) isohypophosphoric acid and isohypophos-phates in which 1 P has a direct P-H bond... [Pg.515]

A dramatic discovery in this area was made in 1996 when a dicopper-dioxygen adduct was found to have two isomeric forms which featured either a side-on bridging unit Cu(/r ), ) -02)-Cu) " or a cyclic (Cu(/r-0)2Cu) " core depending on whether it was crystallized from CH2CI2 or thf, respectively. The two forms could be readily interconverted by reversible 0-0 bond cleavage and reformation, the 0-0 distance being 141 pm and 229 pm in the two isomers.The... [Pg.619]

Should a ligand exist in different isomeric forms then of course the corresponding complexes will also be isomers, often described as ligand isomers . In [CoCl(en)2(NH2C6H4Me)]Cl2, for instance, the toluidine may be of the o-, m- or p- form. [Pg.921]

Violet, easily hydrolysed, PdFp is produced when Pd [Pd F(sl s refluxed with SCF4 and is notable as one of the very few paramagnetic compounds of Pd. The paramagnetism arises from the configuration of Pd which is consequent on its octahedral coordination in the rutile-type structure (p. 961). The dichlorides of both Pd and Pt are obtained from the elements and exist in two isomeric forms which form i.s produced depends on the exact experimenial conditions used. The more usual a form of PdCb is a red material with... [Pg.1153]
