Neomycin sulfate is available for topical and oral administration. Neomycin and polymyxin B have been used for irrigation of the bladder. For this purpose, 1 mL of a preparation (neosporin G. u. irrigant) containing 40 mg neomycin and 200,000 units polymyxin B per milliliter is diluted in 1 L of 0.9% NaCl solution and is used for continuous irrigation of the urinary bladder through appropriate catheter systems. The goal is to prevent bacteriuria and bacteremia associated with the use of indwelling catheters. 

If the water used for irrigation contains plenty of Na and little of Ca, the cation exchange may result in saturation of the soil with the alkaU metal. Because of this the soil disintegrates into clay particles, which makes its agricultural properties worse. Venturi scmbbers can be operated at 2.5 kPa (19 mm Hg) to coUect many particles coarser than 1 p.m efficiently. Smaller particles often require a pressure drop of 7.5—10 kPa (56—75 mm Hg). When most of the particulates are smaller than 0.5 p.m and are hydrophobic, venturis have been operated at pressure drops from 25 to 32.5 kPa (187—244 mm Hg). Water injection rate is typicaUy 0.67—1.4 m of Hquid per 1000 m of gas, although rates as high as 2.7 are used. Increasing water rates improves coUection efficiency. Many venturis contain louvers to vary throat cross section and pressure drop with changes in system gas flow. Venturi scmbbers can be made in various shapes with reasonably similar characteristics. Any device that causes contact of Hquid and gas at high velocity and pressure drop across an accelerating orifice wiU act much like a venturi scmbber. Data on selenium in water are limited. The drinking water content is usually less than 1 )-lg/L, and seldom exceeds the 50 )-lg/L upper limit estabhshed in 1993 by the U.S. EPA (23). It may be higher in wells in seleniferous areas, and markedly higher in some river waters where irrigation drainage from seleniferous soil contains up to 2680 )-lg/L. 

Plants producing oleum or Hquid SO typically have one or two additional packed towers irrigated with oleum ahead of the normal SO absorption towers. Partial absorption of SO occurs in these towers, and sulfuric acid is added to maintain desired oleum concentrations. Normally, oleum up to about 35 wt % free SO content can be made in a single tower two towers are used for 40 wt % SO. Liquid SO is produced by heating oleum in a boder to generate SO gas, which is then condensed. Oleums containing SO >40 wt % are usually produced by mixing SO with low concentration oleum. 

The liquid in which the SAH swelling takes place in real soil (the soil solution) always contains a more-or-less wide set of dissolved salts. Their nature and amount depend on the soil composition, the degree of its salinity, the nature of water entering the soil (rainfall, irrigation, river, or groundwater), the fertilizers used. As a rule, alkali cations, Ca2 +, Mg2+, Fe3+, Al3+, and anions CP, CO, SO4, etc. are the main components of the soil solution there exist various models of soil solution and nutrient mixtures employed in research, including SAH testing.
