Iron titanate browns

Iron Titanate Brown, pigment for plastics, 7 369t... [Pg.493]

Titanates are inverse spinels, where a number of the +2 ions occupy octahedral coordination sites in the lattice. Commercially important grades are the cobalt titanate greens and iron titanate browns. [Pg.49]

Iron titanates are formed from combinations of iron(II) oxide and Ti02- These formulations are commonly modified by additions of iron(III) oxide, zinc(II) oxide, and aluminum(lll) oxide. Like the cobalt titanates, these are inverse spinels stmc-tures. Iron titanate pigments yield light yellow-brown to dark reddish-brown hues. In many cases these pigments exhibit greater heat stability than zinc ferrite or iron oxide browns, and are generally used in applications for this purpose. [Pg.49]

PEROVSKITE. The mineral perovskite is calcium titanate, essentially CaTiCL, with rare earths, principally cerium, proxying for Ca, as do both ferrous iron and sodium, and with colunibiuni substituting for titanium, ll crystallizes in die orthorhombic system, but witli pseudo-isometric character fracture subconchoidal to uneven brittle hardness, 5.5 specific gravity. 4 luster, adamantine color, various shades of yellow to reddish-brown or nearly black transparent to opaque. It is found associated with chlorite or serpentine rocks occurring in the Urals, Baden, Switzerland, and Italy, It was named for Von Perovski. [Pg.1226]

Of the CICP brown pigments, the titanate Yellow 164 does not rely on iron oxide to provide the absorption mechanisms to provide a tan or brown color. Historically, this has led it to be used extensively in RPVC where iron oxide can react with the resin causing premature degradation. It is one of the most durable CICP pigments to produce a brown shade, and provides excellent IR reflection as shown in Figure 24.5. [Pg.475]
