Rhenium Halides and Halide Complexes. Rhenium reacts with chlorine at ca 600°C to produce rheniumpentachloride [39368-69-9], Re2Cl2Q, a volatile species that is dimeric via bridging hahde groups. Rhenium reacts with elemental bromine in a similar fashion, but the metal is unreactive toward iodine. The compounds ReCl, ReBr [36753-03-4], and Rel [59301-47-2] can be prepared by careful evaporation of a solution of HReO and HX. Substantiation in a modem laboratory would be desirable. Lower oxidation state hahdes (Re X ) are also prepared from the pentavalent or tetravalent compounds by thermal decomposition or chemical reduction. [Pg.164]

Reaction of iodine with Pt(phen)Cl2 gives compounds with the unusual stoichiometries Pt(phen)I (a = 5,6) these contain Pt(phen)I4 molecules and free iodine molecules in the lattice. Pt(bipy)I4 has also been made [172], Macrocyclic complexes of platinum(IV) are readily made by oxidation ... [Pg.254]

Attempts to oxidise silver dithiocarbamato complexes with halogens to compounds with the metal in higher oxidation states obviously failed. By addition of iodine to a solution of [Ag(Bu2 fc)]g in CHQ3, an insoluble product is formed with the composition rjA% S> X2dtc) 141). With other alkyl groups similar complexes are obtained. Investigations about the nature of this type of compounds are in progress. [Pg.111]

The silver(I) complexes with the tetrakis(methylthio)tetrathiafulvalene ligand have been reported, the nitrate salt presents a 3D structure with an unprecedented 4.16-net porous inorganic layer of silver nitrate,1160 the triflate salt presents a two interwoven polymeric chain structure.1161 The latter behaves as a semiconductor when doped with iodine. With a similar ligand, 2,5-bis-(5,5,-bis(methylthio)-l,3,-dithiol-2 -ylidene)-l,3,4,6-tetrathiapentalene, a 3D supramolecular network is constructed via coordination bonds and S"-S contacts. The iodine-doped compound is highly conductive.1162 (Methylthio)methyl-substituted calix[4]arenes have been used as silver-selective chemically modified field effect transistors and as potential extractants for Ag1.1163,1164... [Pg.972]

Treatment of /3,-y-unsaturated acids with iodine in sodium bicarbonate solution may give y-iodo-/3-lactones in good yield (equation 94), but if potassium iodide is added then /3-iodo-y-lactones are produced. One compound, 4-phenyl-3-butenoic acid, gave the y-lactone even when KI was not present, presumably due to the phenyl group favoring development of carbonium ion character at C-4 in the intermediate iodine complex. With... [Pg.394]

Perchlorates are unusual in that most are either extremely soluble or only sparingly soluble in water. Silver (I) perchlorate is one of the most soluble salts known, while its coordination compound with pyridine is so insoluble that pyridine can be precipitated quantitatively from aqueous solution by treatment with silver (I) perchlorate.1 Although several complexes of pyridine and silver (I) perchlorate have been described,1,2 the one in which silver(I) exhibits its common coordination number of two is the most stable. This compound provides a stable, nondeli-quescent starting material for synthesizing the perchlorates of the dipyridine complexes of unipositive bromine3 and iodine.4... [Pg.6]
