Invaders

In some cases when drilling fluids invade a very low permeability zone, pressure equalisation in the formation can take a considerable time. The pressure recorded by the tool will then be close to the pressure of the mud and much higher than the true formation pressure. This is known as supercharging. Supercharging pressures indicate tight formation, but are not useful in establishing the true fluid pressure gradient. 

Permeable intervals can be identified from a number of logging tool measurements, the most basic of which is the caliper tool. The caliper tool is used to measure the borehole diameter which, in a gauge hole, is a function of the bit size and the mudcake thickness. Mudcake will only build up across permeable sections of the borehole where mud filtrate has invaded the formation and mud solids (which are too big to enter the formation pore system) plate out on the borehole wall. Therefore the presence of mudcake implies permeability.

Solvent Resistance. At temperatures below the melting of the crystallites, the parylenes resist all attempts to dissolve them. Although the solvents permeate the continuous amorphous phase, they are virtually excluded from the crystalline domains. Consequently, when a parylene film is exposed to a solvent a slight swelling is observed as the solvent invades the amorphous phase. In the thin films commonly encountered, equilibrium is reached fairly quickly, within minutes to hours. The change in thickness is conveniently and precisely measured by an interference technique. As indicated in Table 6, the best solvents, specifically those chemically most like the polymer (eg, aromatics such as xylene), cause a swelling of no more than 3%. 

Cancer. Cancer is a cellular malignancy characterized by loss of normal controls resulting in unregulated growth, lack of differentiation, and the abihty to invade local tissues and metastasize. Most cancers are potentially curable, if detected at an early enough stage. The ideal antineoplastic agent would destroy cancer cells without adverse effects or toxicities to normal cells. No such dmg exists. 

When water is injected into a water-wet reservoir, oil is displaced ahead of the injected fluid. Injection water preferentially invades the small- and medium-sized flow channels or pores. As the water front passes, unrecovered oil is left in the form of spherical, uncoimected droplets in the center of pores or globules of oil extending through intercoimected rock pores. In both cases, the oil is completely surrounded by water and is immobile. There is htde oil production after injection water breakthrough at the production well (5). 

In an od-wet rock, water resides in the larger pores, oil exists in the smaller pores or as a film on flow channel surfaces. Injected water preferentially flows through the larger pores and only slowly invades the smaller flow channels resulting in a higher produced water oil ratio and a lower oil production rate than in the water-wet case.
