It is rapidly absorbed into the systemic circulation following intranasal delivery. It stimulates the release of LH and FSH from the anterior pituitary resulting in a temporary increase of ovarian steroidogenesis. After 2 to 3 days of daily administration, the pituitary becomes refractory to further stimulation. LH/ FSH release is inhibited within 10 days and is followed by a decrease in secretion of gonadal steroids within 2 to 6 weeks. [Pg.273]

Parenteral calcitonin (32 aa) formulations are used to regulate calcemia. Intranasal delivery of calcitonin, a potentially convenient alternative, produces low bioavailability and is not useful as such. Permeation enhancers, including mixed micelle formulations composed of either... [Pg.356]

STDHF has also been shown to enhance intranasal delivery of insulin. The bioavailability of insulin (51 aa) formulated as a nasal drop or spray containing STDHF was 16% to 47% in healthy volunteers [22].The... [Pg.356]

The pharmacokinetics of intranasal lorazepam compared with oral administration have been evaluated in 11 volunteers in a randomized, crossover study (20). Lorazepam had favorable pharmacokinetics for intranasal administration compared with standard methods. Intranasal delivery could provide an alternative non-invasive delivery route for lorazepam. [Pg.416]
