In 1902 Congress passed the Biologies Control Act, which licensed and regulated the interstate sale of serums and vaccines used to prevent and treat diseases in humans. The effect of this would seem obvious because, after much discussion before the Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, the final result was passage of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1906 [2]. This bill was signed into law by President Theodore Roosevelt on June 30, 1906 [3]. The Meat... [Pg.627]

However, it also increases penalties for drug traffickers who possess firearms and incorporates an amendment that essentially bans the purchase of automatic firearms by civilians if the guns were manufactured after the enactment of the law. [Pg.104]

The family farm model is based on family farmers, scattered across the landscape. Each producer must comply with Grade A and Interstate Milk Shippers (IMS) requirements, and have the capacity to store four milkings of milk between pickups. The milk is loaded on insulated tanker trucks, and taken to a plant within a 100-mile radius of the farm. At the plant it is segregated, and produced into a variety of organic products. The plant/facility also must undergo certification. The product is then aged, staged, consolidated, and subsequently shipped to a consolidation warehouse across the country for distribution and sale (see Fig. 8.1). [Pg.123]
