Interrupting calculations

Since the interrupter will take at least three or four cycles to operate from the instant of fault initiation, it is this transient reactance that is more relevant for the purpose of short-circuit calculations. [Pg.354]

Cost of business interruption. The cost of business interruption is significantly influenced by various commercial factors. For example, if you are not producing at fiill capacity it may be possible to make up lost production at other facilities or when the plant comes back into operation. The business interruption costs will only be the additional costs of production, transportation and any lost sales. As these conditions can vary from month to month it may be more appropriate to adopt a standard method of calculating business interruption costs for PSM and ESH purposes. One commonly adopted approach is to estimate the tonnage of production lost and calculate the cost as being the difference between the sale price and all manufacturing, storage and transportation costs. [Pg.125]

Only a few quantitative data are available on copolymerization of methacrylates. Direct determination of the cross-propagation constants is readily achieved in living polymer systems whenever the absorption spectra of the two propagating species are different. Unfortunately, this is not the case in the methacrylate series. A new approach to this problem was developed by Muller 43). A mixture of two monomers is copolymerized, the reaction is interrupted at various times, and the concentrations of the residual monomers are determined as functions of time. The pertinent differential equations include 4 constants ku, k12, k21, and k22. Since kn and k22 were independently determined, the remaining cross-propagation constants are obtained by computer fitting the experimental conversion curves to the calculated ones. [Pg.111]

Conversion and the mean rate of reaction were obtained by titrating the liquid recovered from the bed for total acidity before and after dissolved S02 and sulfurous acid were oxidized to sulfuric acid. The difference between these measurements allowed calculation of the S02 conversion. An extension of the Haure study (Metzinger et al., 1992) added gas phase analysis and a check of the results through a sulfur balance. Computer control of flow interruption and acquisition of the S02 analyzer readings were also added. [Pg.251]

In the remainder of this chapter, we describe the results of a wide variety of electronic-structure calculations. It would be impractical in each case to interrupt the discussion with even a remotely detailed description of the electronic-structure method. They will all fall into the categories that have... [Pg.536]

As shown in Fig. 2.24.2, in large plants the absorption system is more economical than compressor installations, independently of the price of steam or electricity. The low maintenance cost are reflected in the calculation, but the high uptime and reduced production interruption should also be accounted for in an evaluation no large, heavy moving machine parts are the reason for this advantage. [Pg.151]

The cost to repair or rebuild a unit after a fire is often significantly less than the cost of business interruption. There are a number of ways to calculate business interruption. Some factors to consider when determining the cost of business interruption include the following ... [Pg.15]

In atmospheric or low-pressure hydrogenation the volume of hydrogen needed for a partial or total reduction should be calculated. This is imperative for partial hydrogenations when the reduction has to be interrupted after the required volume of hydrogen has been absorbed. In exact calculations vapor pressure of the solvent used must be considered since it contributes to the total pressure in the apparatus. If oxide-type catalysts are used, the amount of hydrogen needed for the reduction of the oxides to the metals must be included in the calculation. [Pg.12]

Go et al. (41) calculated and for Nagai s model of interrupted helix, using a different mathematical method from that of Nagai (5). In so doing, they adopted the Lifson-Roig theory (6) to describe the conformation of the chain. With and , we can construct a function x(w) defined by... [Pg.92]

Norisuye and Teramoto (47) have extended a similar approximate calculation to under the same restrictions as imposed above. Their expression, though not shown here, reduces to = (5/3) 2 for infinite N, which also confirms the conclusion that any interrupted helix behaves like a Gaussian chain when the chain is infinitely long. [Pg.98]

With the above-mentioned calculated results alone, it is impossible to distinguish which of the two mechanisms, interrupted helical structure or bond angle fluctuation, is mainly responsible for the observed nonlinear chain-length... [Pg.108]
