Internal thread

Probably the largest compound vessels built were two triple-wall vessels, each having a bore diameter of 782 mm and a length of 3048 mm designed for a pressure of 207 MPa (30,000 psi). These vessels were used by Union Carbide Co. for isostatic compaction unfortunately the first failed at the root of the internal thread of the outer component which was required to withstand the end load (40). A disadvantage of compound shrinkage is that, unless the vessel is sealed under open-end conditions, the end load on the closures has to be resisted by one of the components, which means that the axial stress in that component is high. 

Inspection revealed severe metal loss on internal surfaces at the base of the vanes resulting in a large, irregular perforation (Figs. 17.16 through 17.18). In addition, metal loss was observed in a distinct circumferential zone adjacent to internal threads (Fig. 17.17).

Thread compound should be applied to both the external and internal threads, and the coupling should be reapplied handling tight. Field-end threads and the mating coupling threads should have thread compounds applied Just before stabbing.

Moldable holes and inserts can complicate molding and may require extra postmolding operations. Thus, the most economical designs are those that minimize the number of holes. With many plastics, both external and internal threads can be molded, but sharp V threads should be avoided because they can cause the plastic to bridge, resulting in incomplete thread fill. Rounded or modified buttress threads will allow improved thread fill. 

Screw threads shall conform to ASME Bl.l unless other threads are required for adjustment under heavy loads. Turnbuckles and adjusting nuts shall have the full length of internal threads engaged. Any threaded adjustment shall be provided with a locknut, unless locked by other means. 

It is a single-action, SQ type designed for use with 57-mm HEAT projectiles. The fuze differs from PD fuze s in that initiation is by impact of the fuze primer directly against the target. The fuze is characterized by internal threads for engagement of the projectile and by shaped auxiliary detonating charge (H). 

The resealable glass tube was fabricated from an Ace Glass medium-walled straight tube. The tube was permanently sealed on one end and the other end remained internally threaded.
