Laboratory internal gnidelines for general operations like the calculation of detection limits or the measurement uncertainty should be included in the quality manual or reference made to further documentation. [Pg.151]

The Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is the equivalent interest rate at which the Net Present Value of the acquisition would be zero. Given the projected total cost of the system, and the projected total benefits of the system, both projected back (discounted) to today, it is the interest rate that the investment could sustain and still just break even. Since firms, in general, operate at a point where their incremental cost of money is equal to its incremental earning power, any investment that returns an IRR better than the cost of money is a good investment. Traditionally, the IRR is found by calculating the NPV with different interest factors in a trial and error method until the interest factor is found which drives the NPV to approximately zero. [Pg.72]

Whereas the laboratory fluidized bed is generally operated with no internals, plant equipment often must contain bundles of heat-exchanger tubes. Screens, baffles, or similar internals are frequently used to redisperse the bubble gas in industrial reactors. The mass-transfer area is thus increased relative to the fluidized bed without internals the extra area can be utilized to partially offset the conversion-reducing effects of bed diameter and gas distributor [122]. [Pg.466]

Many of the principles used in pesticide exposure assessment are applicable to other classes of chemicals, and it is hoped that this book will encourage crossfertilization among disciplines. In particular, continued international co-operation and harmonization will be essential to ensure the protection of workers and the general public from the adverse effects of pesticides. [Pg.437]

Cavitation is a general operation problem, which can be solved by the use of tubings with a higher internal diameter or by increasing the pressure at the suction side of the pump. The easiest way to increase the pressure is to lift the eluent reservoir to a higher level than the pump inlet. If this is not sufficient the pressure in the solvent... [Pg.176]

Water management is important in the optimization of the cell operation, affecting both internal resistance and cathode polarization losses of the cell.273 Because protons (H30+) permeate through the membrane together with hydrated water and the fuel cell is generally operated at 80 °C, water should be supplied to the anode side. Fuel (hydrogen) and oxygen (air) also should be humidified to keep the membrane wet. [Pg.271]

Wliilst a substructure search system generally operates by finding all structures in the database which contain the specified query structure embedded within them, a number of different ways are used to specify the exact manner in which the query may be embedded. In some cases (e.g., DARC) this involves specifying as free sites those atoms which can have connections other than those shown in the query in other cases (e.g., STN International) it involves specifying the permissible number of connections for certain atoms. It may also be possible to specify whether or not a ring system can be embedded in a larger ring system, or have only acyclic substituents. [Pg.122]

An important characteristic of the proposed new MMM is its relationship with the ISO standard 9001 2008. This standard is chosen since it is the international reference for any quahty management system, which turns into a generic guide for a process operation in which fulfillment with requirements should be demonstrated, such as the case of the maintenance function. In the same way, PAS 55 offers valuable information about the maintenance management process. The general operation of the new MMM is presented in Fig. 1. [Pg.501]

Equipment for monitoring individual doses to workers should include the means necessary to measure, evaluate and record the doses received from external and internal sources. The general operational aspects of individual monitoring of doses (external radiation dosimeters, methods of assessment of internal dose, etc.) are considered in Refs [17,18]. [Pg.49]
