Interface with external programs

Memory allocation/deallocation is automatically managed by LabVIEW. Similar to most programming languages, LabVIEW supports all common data types such as integers, floats, strings, and clusters (structures) and can readily interface with external libraries, Active X components, and NET framework. 

A microcontroller board for sensor read-out was developed in collaboration with AppliedSensor (Reutlingen, Germany). This board provides the power supply and the necessary reference voltages and currents to the sensor chip. The sensor chip is mounted on a socket and connected to the microcontroller. The microcontroller provides a set of commands for programming and reading the on-chip registers, controller parameters and sensor values. The microcontroller also manages the data transfer between the f C interface of the microchip and a serial RS-232 interface for external read-out via a PC. The data stream is continuously read out in the measurement mode. Each data set contains the temperature of the microhotplate, the chip... 

The firm has failed to document all sites, departments, or connections on the network using the [application]. Various new ways are described for the operator to make selections from the output. A program under development is described for interfacing SYNGEN with external reaction databases, in order to seek literature precedent for the generated reactions. 

To improve the interfacing of DARC with external systems a set of programs has been planned for development by a team of Telesystemes and Akzo staff. A new open-ended communication protocol has been written initialising a subprocess controlled by transferred logical names. Via this protocol the following options are achieved ... 

Investigate optimization of solutions in the previous two exercises for one or more objectives decision variables and their bounds can be changed suitably. This optimization requires a suitable optimizer available in the simulator or an external program (with interface to the simulator). 

The expert system described in this paper is implemented in the EXSYS expert system shell to work with the knowledge base, and Turbo-Pascal external programs for user interface, graph representation, and complex calculations. 

Modern frequency converters now make it possible to handle smaller automation tasks via the motor drive alone. Here, the controller intended for controlling the inverter assumes monitoring and control tasks that it can communicate externally via the available (or expandable) I/O. Moreover, it is also possible to connect various bus systems. Sometimes the functioning of small programmable logic controls can be integrated into the inverter. Parameters and control function programming can be entered via a small user interface. It may be even more convenient to connect to a laptop with an RS 232 interface.
