Restructuring interface

Menezes S (1984) 12% solar conversion efficiency by interface restructuring. Appl Phys Lett 45 148-149... [Pg.300]

The work of adhesion is also related to the force needed to break chemical bonds at the interface on the atomic scale. When bonds form at the interface of two solids, restructuring can occur at both sides of the interface, thereby optimizing the strength of the interfacial chemical bond. This restructuring is related to the adsorbate-induced restructuring processes and to the phenomenon of epitaxy that was discussed in Chapters 2 and 5. It involves the movement of atoms perpendicular, as well as parallel, to the interface. We may call this movement the work of interface restructuring It involves surface atoms as well as atoms two to three layers away from... [Pg.602]

There has been a general updating of the material in all the chapters the treatment of films at the liquid-air and liquid-solid interfaces has been expanded, particularly in the area of contemporary techniques and that of macromolecular films. The scanning microscopies (tunneling and atomic force) now contribute more prominently. The topic of heterogeneous catalysis has been expanded to include the well-studied case of oxidation of carbon monoxide on metals, and there is now more emphasis on the flexible surface, that is, the restructuring of surfaces when adsorption occurs. New calculational methods are discussed. [Pg.802]

The second part of the book deals with the use of above method in physical and chemical studies. In addition to illustration load, this part of the book has a separate scientific value. The matter is that as examples the book provides a detailed description of the studies of sudi highly interesting processes as adsorption, catalysis, pyrolysis, photolysis, radiolysis, spill-over effect as well as gives an insight to such problems as behavior of free radicals at phase interface, interaction of electron-excited particles with the surface of solid body, effect of restructuring of the surface of adsorbent on development of different heterogeneous processes. [Pg.1]

The use of neutron reflectivity at liquid interfaces, which is a method sensitive to both surface roughness and surfactant layer thickness, was reviewed with the examples of polydimethylsiloxane-surfactant layers.633 Sum-frequency generation (SFG) vibrational spectroscopy was applied to study surface restructuring behavior of PDMS in water in an attempt to understand antifouling properties of silicones.6 ... [Pg.683]

Camm JD, Chorman TE, Dill FA, Evans JR, Sweeney DJ, Wegryn GW (1997) Blending OR/MS, Judgment, and GIS Restructuring P G s Supply Chain. Interfaces 27 128-142... [Pg.214]

The manner by which shear stress-induced cellular changes occur in endothelial cells involves cell membrane and cytoskeletal molecules that lead to a shape change. The cytoskeleton contains actin filaments, intermediate filaments, and microtubules, all of which are restructured upon exposure to external force. Under stress conditions, actin filaments coalesce to form stress fibers that anchor at the focal contacts, which are adhesion sites at the cell substrate interface. [Pg.242]

Joyner s work [23] on the reactions of the amminecobalt(III) azides showed that the presence of a reaction interface was apparently of greater significance than the internal structural features of the reactant. Despite the unusual feature of this group of reactants, the availiability of two distinct reaction paths, the behaviour of four different salts was largely independent of whether the initial azide groups were covalently bonded to the cation or present as the anion. Reactant restructuring preceded the main decomposition reaction. [Pg.521]
