Interfaces adhesion

Solubihty parameters of materials are important in processing of compounds /components. A material used in excess of this parameter can bloom (move to the surface of the component) and render it difficult in final tire assembly or block desired migration and weaken component interfaced adhesion. [Pg.249]

CNTs can be chemically functionalized to achieve good dispersion in polymer/ CNT composites and strong interface adhesion (Gao et al., 2004). CNTs can be assembled as ropes or bundles, and there are some catalyst residuals, bucky onions, spheroidal fullerenes, amorphous carbon, polyhedron graphite nanoparticles, and other forms of impurities during the growth process of CNTs. [Pg.203]

Ladizesky and Ward (1983, 1989), Ward and Ladizesky (1986) and Ward (1993) reported that plasma treatment of polyethylene fibers in an atmosphere of oxygen is the most effective among the many techniques studied. There are four major mechanisms responsible for improved fiber-matrix interface adhesion ... [Pg.203]

Due to surface temperature fluctuations during lamination and the resulted changes in photoresist/copper interface adhesion, printed circuit yield is inversely proportional to FR-4 substrate thickness. Preheating the substrates, however, would improve the adhesion and result in a higher yield for the printed circuits. [Pg.289]

It should be emphasized that the primers in the plasma coating systems applied to the IVD Al-coated A1 alloys could not be removed by the commercial Turco paint stripper solution. This tenacious and water-insensitive adhesion at the primer/IVD interface achieved by TMS cathodic polymerization in a closed reactor system must be responsible for the excellent corrosion protection performance of these plasma coating systems. In other words, excellent corrosion protection of IVD Al-coated A1 alloys can be accomplished with chromate-free primer coatings with the aid of tenacious and water-insensitive interface adhesion. [Pg.718]

When O ions were in the 0 charge state, the anions were found to be very reactive, with maximum interface adhesion for V and decreasing monotonically towards each side in the d series, but with Cu anomalously stabilized. The interface strength of 0 -terminated a-Al203(0001) is estimated to twice that of the Al + terminated. This picture is in some... [Pg.526]

Studies into the matter have shown that a proper coupling agent should contain two functional domains One domain capable to form entanglements, or segmental crystallization with the polymer matrix and the other capable to strongly interact with the hller—via covalent bond(s), ionic interactions, hydrogen bonds, and so on. These interactions commonly increase the interface adhesion between the hller and the matrix. [Pg.162]

The desired compatibilization can be obtained by different methods such as the addition of a third component (copolymer or functional polymer) or by inducing in situ chemical reactions (reactive blending) among blend components, leading to the modification of the polymer interfaces and tailoring the blend phase structure and the final properties. The final properties of a blend will be determined not only by the components properties but also by the phase morphology and the interface adhesion, both of which determine the stress transfer within the blend and its end-use applications. [Pg.509]

The pull-off test for measuring adhesion is described in ISO4624. Adhesion is assessed by measuring the minimum tensile stress necessary to detach or to rupture the coating in a direction perpendicular to the substrate. The result gives the minimum tensile stress required to break the weakest interface (adhesive failure) or the weakest compound (cohesive failure) of the test assembly. Mixed adhesive-cohesive failure may also occur. [Pg.229]
