Few data, especially recent data, are available on occupational exposure levels of pyridine. In 1978, the United States P Tidine Task Force of the Interagency Testing Committee reported that in United States workplaces where pyridine was manufactm-ed or used as a chemical intermediate or as a solvent, workers were exposed to 8-h time-weighted average (TWA) pyridine concentrations ranging from 0.008 to 1.0 ppm [0.026 to 3.24 mg/m ]. Technicians working in quality control and research and development laboratories of one of the pyridine manufacturers were exposed to TWA concentrations (measiu ed over 6-h periods) of no more than 0.09 ppm [0.29 mg/m ] (Santodonato etal, 1985). 

The US Interagency Testing Committee estimated BCFs for N-EtFOSE and N-McFOSE using structure-activity models to be 5543 and 26000, respectively [77]. These values are likely in error because the rate of metabolism was not a consideration in this exercise. Although the data quality is suspect, the apparent bioconcentration factor for N-EtFOSE was approximately 400 in bluegill sunfish and channel catfish [78]. As far as we are aware, this is the only existing experimental bioaccumulation data for any PFA precursor.

Similar practices have been utilized by the Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology in establishing their testing programs and by the Federal Interagency Testing Committee which functions under TSCA.

The TSCA Interagency Testing Committee (ITC, http //www.epa.gov/opptintr/itc) screened 8,511 chemicals for PB potential. Walker and Carlsen (2002) described the PB characteristics for 50 of these chemicals (Table 1).
