The objective of this paper is to explore fully the associations of lead and confounding factors on child IQ, using data from the Institute of Child Health/Southampton Study, one of the largest cross-sectional surveys of this kind. 

We greatly appreciate the cooperation of Professor Barbara Clayton, Professor Philip Graham, Dr Trevor Delves and Dr Richard Lansdown, and also the Department of the Environment in enabling us to undertake further analyses of their Institute of Child Health/Southampton Study.
